What I'm trying to get at Exile ,is that if the magic weekend was a union showpiece as ours is supposed to be ,then no doubt it would be marketed and advertised as such .30'000fans for 8 teams on saturday was a very bad image in a 70'000seater stadium. No matter what there league crowds areexile in Tiger country wrote:I don't think it would have been different if it was union teams. The average attendance in the Aviva premiership is less than that of Superleague, and the figures are getting worse not better. Leicester tigers rarely fill Welford road and that has a capacity of only 17,000, and the supporters that do turn up are, in my experience, even more parochial than league supporters.up the junction wrote:couldn't agree more crowds were pretty poor ,great concept though but needs a bit more thought about how we come across to neutrals with half empty stadiums .If it was the other code it would have been bursting at the seams both days with great advertising .Garry Riley wrote:Don't much see the point of these RoboRefs. I do like the overhead camera that's flying around the pitch. I think it would be better if the Magic weekend was held at maybe the Reebok stadium, at least we would see a capacity or near capacity ground. I can't help but think that if we're promoting the game in all its splendour it doesn't look good when the stadium isn't even half full for most of the time.
In union, they always do there big occasions well attracting plenty of neutrals,so I think a smaller ground would come across better on tv .

SLTV: Warriors battle to beat champions
Wigan battled past the Super League champions to secure a Magic Weekend victory. Leeds could have won the contest but a late try from Danny McGuire was disallowed. SLTV hear from Pat Richards, Micky McIlorum, Sean O'Loughlin and Josh Charnley

Just a couple of points. Finding a smaller stadium with top flight facilities would be nearly impossible. The Etihad has a capacity of 47,950. The only other stadia in the area with top facilities are the DW (imagine the reaction from Yorkshire about Wigan playing at home) or the Reebok, 28,723 capacity, but without the advantage of being near a major city and the facilities offered by that.up the junction wrote:What I'm trying to get at Exile ,is that if the magic weekend was a union showpiece as ours is supposed to be ,then no doubt it would be marketed and advertised as such .30'000fans for 8 teams on saturday was a very bad image in a 70'000seater stadium. No matter what there league crowds areexile in Tiger country wrote:I don't think it would have been different if it was union teams. I agree that the advertising advertising union would be better, but we all know that if the RFL organised a party at Boddingtons, everyone would leave sober.

Hugely significant win. A tight evenly matched contest and we came out on top. We have previously lost to Leeds and drawn with Wire. These are the games that matter and the ones we as fans should be seeing more often than not.

Beating a top side was certainly a good result but it shows how close the competition at the top is. It puts the big wins against poor sides into perspective.cpwigan wrote:Hugely significant win. As you say we drew v Wire and lost to Leeds. We also lost to Hudds and one overriding feature of those losses was they all had the players and tactics to stop our favourite attacking move out wide by employing a rush defence. Leeds did it again at Manchester Magic and kept us scoreless the entire second half. We didn't look particularly good taking it up the middle when we lost the option of our usual attacking move out wide.
I am not convinced that had Green played things would have been different as Wane has suggested as I don't see why he'd have had any more space than the half backs on the day.
Close games like this are much better and more exiting then 40 odd to nil results and getting the win is far more satisfying as a result. What they also do though is show up any weaknesses whereas you just can't see it v the likes of Salford.
So far we have scored 140 tries which is an average of 8.75 per game which is a pretty phenomenal statistic.
Against Wire, Leeds (played twice) and Hudds we scored 10 tries in four games, 2.5 per game and never more than 3 in any game.
I don't think we are going to win a challenge cup or GF if we score three tires or less. It's only won us one out of those four games.
In a way this is how it should be. We should not be racking up points for fun against the better sides but one thing is for sure and it is we need to work out how to score more against such organised defences if we want to improve our chances of a trophy.

Wigan magic attendance
I couldn't make it this year to the magic weekend because I was on holiday. But it looked like a great day and that we had a great atmosphere in our end. But was just wondering how many fans did we take this year? To me it didn't look like we had as many this year as last year but does anyone know if that's right? Cheers

Have you seen the thread they have about Wiganers now?...oohh...cheeky gets...Kittwazzer wrote:And then they all left leaving the final game to be played to an empty stadium. Just as a postscript to the Wigan v Leeds match.
Tony Smith and John Wilkin were absolutely sure on "The Super League Show" BBC 1 that the Leeds 'obstruction' try was OK!!!
Well they would say that wouldn't they?
