At least he has some great memories of success here and a law degree to fall back on.
Just goes to show a sports career can be short and why we should not begrudge them a high wage.
...but we will begrudge them leaving Wigan before a contract ends for a higher wage?
We'd better cancel the entire teams contracts then in case they get knocked down by a bus
There is nothing contradictory in wanting our players wages to be higher and at the same time to expect them (and the club) to keep to their deals.
If a contracted player has to retire due to injury they are insured against it anyway. No compensation for loss of career obviously but it does mean possible end of career isn't a reason to want out of your contract any more than any other. So it follows all the reasons that apply for a player to see his contract out still apply regardless of the fact he may suffer a career ending injury.
In fact his contract is what protects him from walking away with nothing.

Could of been a very good player if he had any luck but alas thats the way it goes.
This is why although i dont agree with it i never begrudge a player leaving a contract early for a big pay day, especially in rugby league take what you can while you can. From what i remember he was a clever boy though and did he do a degree in surveying? or have i imagined all that - either way i hope he had a backup plan and wish him all the best
Wasn't it Andy Coley who qualified as a surveyor?
Quantity surveyor. Counts bricks for a living though I thought he got a job with the club?

He did. He's the interface with S Wales Scorpions. And Dave, that put-down was unworthy of you!
What, counting bricks? One of my brothers in law is a quantity surveyor and he aint short of a bob or two I can tell you. I still accuse him of counting bricks for a living at every opportunity.
Damned shame for Precky. A solid no nonsense forward who never shirked his responsibility sadly leading to an early retirement. And very gracious with his retirement speech.Good luck to him.
Preccy was a damn fine player, who had decent skills for a front rower. His career has been blighted throughout by injuries. IIRC, when he and Bryn Hargreaves were coming through the academy system, he missed a whole season with a very serious injury.

I think that was the injury to his eye.
It was against Wakey in the early round of the CC, at Wakey.
I was there that day & was shocked to learn that his retina had detached from his eye in a tackle. At the time, it was thought then, his career was over
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
