Bowen was world class. He will no doubt be good enough if he stays fit for a season (his deal is a year with an option of another). Sam is 24 and there is no way on earth this (Sam out, Bowen in) is a good deal for Wigan.

As to young players coming through, they may or may not make it.

As to the world record fee, over the past few years we have sold Joel, Mossop, Hock and now Sam. There was supposed to be about £250,000 in the pot from selling Joel. Mossop and Hock, never mind Sam is another £400K or £500K and now we can add £700K for Sam.

I don't see the club being anywhere remotely close to spending the £250K it supposedly got for Joel never mind what is in the pot now.

We bought Smith, Green and Taylor all for five figure sums low enough to leave us with change from £250K. Powell, Flower, Dudson, Lauaki and Gelling all came for free as has Bowen.

We have got Hopkins from Leigh and are linked with Sargison and Clubb. However much we pay for these players it's not going to put a tiny dent in the cash we have supposedly got and yet the squad fills up in terms of number of players on the books with average players.

It's only any good if these world record fees can buy us world class players but they can't as we can't afford to pay them world class wages so we end up with average players or once great players close to retirement like Bowen.

I will add my prediction is we won't be seen to be spending anything like we have taken in transfer fees.

We may if we are lucky get a player like Briscoe and he may cost a six figure sum but I can't see who else there is to spend the cash on and IL as yet has not been particularly predatory in making surprise bids for top British players under contract.
