Are Warrington favourites?

Post by shaunedwardsfanclub »

Given that we have only won two of the last dozen or so encounters, that Warrington performed better than us in the league this year, they have a bag full of experience compared to our youth and Silverwood is the referee (the last comment is in jest) are they overwhelming favourites to lift the SL crown? The bookies think they are most likely to win.

My view is that the gap between the two teams has closed significantly this year with a draw at the DW (a match that we should have won) and a terrific contest at the HJ which saw the Wire win by a narrow margin against a weakened Wigan outfit.

In conclusion, I think this game is too close to call.

If the bookies make them favourites, then they are favourites, but I can't say I'm concerned. I'm glad we avoided them at the HJ, but on neutral territory I think we'll win, based on:
- this year's games between us - we were the better side at home and much of the away game, despite having a host of players settling in, in the first case, and a severely weakened team in the second;
- our form in the big games - we are 7 from 7, and the level of performance we have produced in the last 5 of those (people massively under estimated the execution in attack and brilliance in defence in the Cup run to my mind)will be sufficient to win on Saturday;
- Wire's weaknesses - they have 2 main ones. Age, where our greater fitness, tenacity and ability to sustain our game for 80 minutes, will be in our favour, and their mistake rate, where we are set up to take more advantage of the opposition's mistakes than any other team; and
- we are Wigan - we have won at Old Trafford. Winning is in the club's DNA.

I think they are clear favourites but I doubt anyone is writing Wigan off.

I think a lot depends on keeping Higham quiet. He has been in the form of his life recently and if we put Logan v him I think he would have a field day and enough tries in a short space of time could be scored to kill us off.

Stops warringtons dominance in collision and you stop Higham. He only plays/scoots off a dominant collision when he can get a quick PTB. Slow this down and you go a huge way to effecting warringtons attack.

Got to go for Warrington considering we were so poor against a tired and injury hit Leeds. Our forwards let us down in that game along with no skill shown by our backs equals a Warrington win but it could go close as its a final. We will go off the boil 60 mins in to the game and that's were it will be won in my humble opinion.

It's a one off game and carrying the favourite tag can be a mixed blessing. Souths went into their play off game v Manley as hot favourites and yet for the second year running choked.

Reckon wire think they've got it in the bag but we'll see.

Warrington definitely are everyone elses favourite's it would seem. Not my favourite though.

The underdog title should once again boost us and I think if we can put Higham and Briers in their places early then we can do this.

We played well against Leeds but I believe there's still so much more. This is a grudge match for sure and if the fans can throw a whole pile of noise at the players then add with that the determination of 3/4 players who want to leave with their name in the headlines before they go we can do it.

Bring it on!!!! Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?!?!?
