Only an idiot...

Only an idiot would purposely weaken his own side to face the best international team in the world. Does anything more need to be said?

Perhaps the self proclaimed shepherd leading a few sheep to the trough may have had something to do with it.

I can see your point Kaii, and these were my first thoughts - however I am disgusted in the players who are treating this as some big 'jolly' and players drinking sessions during preparation for a tournament like this cannot be tolerated.

England needs commitment - if it's not there, those involved need to be dropped.

I'd rather have a team who are committed to the cause on the pitch than a bunch of hungover p-heads taking the places of those who would be committed to their team and country.

Its called discipline, without it we have no chance, the players should know that, not only have they let themselves down, they have shown disrespect to their team mates. Whatever they think about the coach, when your in camp (club or country)you abide by the rules set down.

Great idea !, give the job to someone at less than 24 hours notice, that would really improve our chances.

It could work in our favour really. I don't rate McNamara either but I've been trying to see both sides of it.

1) there will be players (still very good players in that) who will know their place is at jeopardy when those players come back. It could galvanise who we have on the field.

2) It isn't a must win game so it gives more people exposure/playing time in case injuries mean they are needed in the latter stages. Squad players may be more prepared.

3) It sets a precedent that this type of thing will not be tolerated, it puts some discipline into the players and hopefully makes those who stepped out of line have an attitude to prove they are sorry and want to do their best for England.

I want this World Cup to be great for supporters and England so I'm going to try and see the positives until its over. What has happened isn't brilliant, it isn't idea, but we can overcome it if it happens now and is done and dusted. Lets hope it is

He probably could have been more forthcoming that other players have been disciplined for breaching rules, seeing as its in the public domain already, but once he's said he isn't going to comment on it, the press (whilst only doing their job do get a headline like this) aren't doing anyone any favours really. They can write what they want anyway, they've already written it in some quarters, so they might as well not repeat the same questions if they have anything else to ask him. Its all a panto now.
