Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Ok bit optimistic, 2014 then

I think you underestimate H's contribution to the team and will find over the season that because they aren't as good as H they won't prove to be good enough.
It's also not particularly inspiring to see other clubs sign better players then we do which is what has happened here.
There is a lot of talk about the team being greater than the sum of its parts so lesser players don't automatically mean less success as the "team" is a better "team" than otjer more star studded sides but in our case one of the reasons we have had such a good team is down to key players like H.
Well part of the fun of being on here is predicting what will happen. I will bet you £20 now, proceeds to charity, we won't be as competitive in 2014 as in 2013.I recall your exasperation this time last year when we let Lima go home early and you felt the club hadn't tried hard enough to keep Brett Finch. Yet, we went on to take the double. If we do that every year, I won't care who's names are on the back of the shirts. That said, if we were to slip into the Doldrums and it can be unquestionably put down to irresponsible player dealings, then I would be happy to join you in your criticism, but I prefer to wait until it happens.
I'd happily lose the bet BTW.
I don't think H will haunt us as I am not as confident as CPW on Salfords' trophy chances. My concern is we will miss him more than people realise.if I'm honest, I'm more nervous about Matty Russell coming back to haunt us than H. And we didn't get a penny for him!
BTW if Matty Russell does come back to haunt us why would having got a fee make that any easier to swallow?
For me if ever I see a player I felt we should have kept ripping us apart the last thing I will be thinking about is how much or how little we got for him.

So according to your logic, Hansen is a 'Superman' when in fact he will be part of a 69 year old in total 'best second row' which if they stay together (which I doubt) will be 73 total years in four seasons time.
Any more youthful combination of Bateman, Farrell, Pettybourne etc will suit me rather than two players who Wigan have had the best out of and in their wisdom got transfer fees in the process.
And if the players who Salford have signed do not produce the goods straight away, I am in no doubt that with a owner like Koutash, they will not be there long and their squad will be a permanent revolving door!

Is it me but I don't get these figures. :conf:
Re: Hansen
Here is the question WCC v Roosters, if H was available would he make the 13? YES IMO so we have in the short term at the very least weakened our starting 13. Many would arguably say losing Sam and Pat already weakens our starting 13 so now we have further weakened our starting 13.
BTW Ian Potter was considered to add nothing offensively but ask the likes of Ellery Hanley would he be in their team and they said YES every time.
We can but hope a youngster / signing emerges but it will be medium term before they adequately replace H.
The one issue that grates me not here another forum is that H is only going for the money! UTTER BOLLOCKS! H gave a decade to this club, he screwed his wrist post rugby career and he EVEN took a wage cut / deferred wages to help our club. What did he get in return?
H you are not wanted, we are not offering you a new deal just enforcing our 12 month option and if somebody waves 20K / 30K whatever at us we do not want you for even a season.
Loyalty does not exist in Professional sport but the one group that should show it to ex players wherever possible are FANS. Sometime you cannot; Mathers in my case but H deserves a classy response from the Wigan fans when he steos onto the DW for Salford.

Re: Hansen
CPW - I am not sure what to make of your point about loyalty. If we had kept him on for another year, and ignored this offer of an increased contract then that would have been treating him badly. Salford value him more highly than us, and so we are letting him go. I can see how you can argue about whether we under valued him. I have my view from what I have seen and the cold statistics, but if your point is that he has been underpaid then we're allowing him to be well paid now, so shouldn't you be happy.
If you're saying that he was always scandalously underpaid, then that may or may not be the case, but he was in a position to do something about it himself. he signed his own contracts.

Re: Hansen
The loyalty or lack of it was not looking to extend his contract. H delivered, players were being awarded new contracts, extensions and a player who has given everything for a decade was offered NOTHING.Exiled Wiganer wrote:CPW - I am not sure what to make of your point about loyalty.
