12 teams

Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

Without knowing the ins and outs it appears as if the initial gusto of the walkout evaporated and we returned to the default position that prompted the walk out.

Without looking at things too deeply, the system proposed is naff and lacks any foresight or in depth thinking.

The sad reality is that 12 teams is too many for SL; 8 is probably more realistic FINANCIALLY.

Dave O
The way I read it after the 22 games (home and away) the top 8 then play each other to decide the champions so that will replace the play offs in some way shape or form so it wont be 29 games plus the play offs.
CP you are dead right 8 teams max and that is pushing it but we need to do something to change that. I'm quite looking forward to the change it at least gives the league below something to aspire to and for their fans something to get excited about which at the end of the day is what it is all about.

My concern is that the salary cap in the Championship is very small so bringing in P & R (which I actually prefer) means that you are asking a club to step up from a level far below that of SL whilst also raising questions as to what happens to the contracts of the players going from a SL salary cap to a championship salary cap?

At first instance you rightly think great but in the cold light of day you realise this game that is so poorly run is not equipped to deal with complexities.

Or the RFL are finally admitting what many have been saying for some time now and that is that Super League is now much poorer in playing standards than it was say at its inception.
Wins for Championships teams against sides like London, Bradford, Wakefield and Widnes may not be "unheard" of

WW is that your comment after DaveOs it's bonkers statement ( as it looks as if you have just re-quoted DaveOs post)?

I will sit firmly on the fence on this one as I think P+R is necessary but I can also see the drawbacks CP mentions

From what I have read the RFL will release further info in due course and I guess the SL clubs need to meet again to debate how revenue should be shared and the game marketed.

It results in 30 games (inc magic) before the play offs or CC are taken into account.

The playing each other once when it goes to an 8 is going to mean the clubs play teams who end up in the same 8 as them 3 times in the league format, they will potentially play one club 4 times if they are drawn against them at the Magic Weekend and possibly again in the playoffs.

Add in the CC we could end up playing, say Saints, 6 times in one season under this format. How stupid is that?

There are also players livelihoods at stake here as there always is when you have relegation from a pro league to a semi-pro one.

It's bonkers IMO.

I am with you Dave it is a ridiculous situation

If/when it all goes tits up, then quite simply there will be no one else to blame. Maybe then, this Leeds/Yorkshire stranglehold on the game will finally end if that does happen??!!

The instability, repeated failures / changes of ownership of several clubs almost suits the Hethrington Agenda. There are far far too few strong and/or suitably experienced owners in RL. I do felt Saints did not step up to the plate on this occasion despite being quite vocal critics at times during the season.
