Thats all well and good, but what if Sam tells them he wants to be released? Surely they would have to drop their demands to cash in rather than keep a player who doesnt want to play for them.butt monkey wrote:I read in the Australian press that "if" any offer for Burgess was made then it would have to compensate them to the tune of at least £1m based on three reasons.
One: the length of time remaining on his current contract (three years),
two: Wigan receiving a figure close to £1m for selling S Tomkins and they feel he is of similar stature for a similar sized fee,
three: the matter of the compensation they themselves paid the Bulls to release Burgess early from his contract.
Unless those details have been settled and suitable compensation received, then Souths would not be selling Burgess to anyone

I used to see this bloke as a legend, I now no longer have any respect for him. Its bad enough loosing such a talent on his coaching ability, but when he is the main contact in poaching league players goes beyond my liking.Whelley Warrior wrote:What chance have we got of keeping our best players when we have got the likes Andy Farrell encouraging them to defect to Union?

It does not look good that is for sure.Panchitta Marra wrote:I used to see this bloke as a legend, I now no longer have any respect for him. It amazes me how all these converts go to Bath when if the RFU were seriously interested in all of England they would be placing such player at Leeds RU or Sale RU. Unless, the RFU are happy with London, the South West and parts of the Midlands ?

I wonder How much club choice is handed to the player himself CP.cpwigan wrote:It does not look good that is for sure.Panchitta Marra wrote:I used to see this bloke as a legend, I now no longer have any respect for him. Burgess would maybe choose to live in bath as opposed to being back in yorkshire.
Either way, its another big talent lost to yawnion in a manner part arranged through one of our own past legends.
Infuriating at best.
Re: Sam Burgess to Union
They apparently see Sam B as a centre. If that is the case the two sports are even further apart than I ever envisaged.
Faz using his league background on behalf of another sport looks poor. At one time I envisaged him returning to Wigan but now? NO thanks. On the one hand I guess he can say I owe it to my present employers to do the best I can.
For Sam B he will IMO have to be paid far more by Union to give up that Australian lifestyle and the way his profile was developing there a possible media career post playing days.

The RFU maybe see Sam B as a match up against SBW which is a continuation of the Bunnies versus Roosters games followed on by England & NZ in the recent world cup.
As you say CP his talents will gradually be wasted by inept training for his skills and depleting fitness levels on the crossover from league to union.

Perhaps we should do to people like Farrell, what Union clubs did when any of their players defected to League by banning them from the club?cpwigan wrote:They apparently see Sam B as a centre. If that is the case the two sports are even further apart than I ever envisaged.

On one occasion, Alex Murphy was even frog marched from the ground of Fylde RU when he was spotted by their officials watching two of their players who later signed for Wigan, while many of the players who came from Wales faced a barrage of abuse if they went back to visit their families.
The nastiness in Union towards our game is still there today with many who run, play, coach or even report their game in the media.

Couldnt agree more WW, I've Been harping on about union for a long time know about what they are prepared to do to Rugby League and it gets my back up so much. As such I detest anything to do with the game of Rugby Union, a game I see as sub standard to rugby league. Yes they call it a different game, well if thats the case why do they attempt to put RL down so much. I know the answer to that question as they also know that league is a far better spectacle with stronger, fitter athletes wbo dont resort to always kicking a ball when they catch it. I remember a newspaper article some years ago and it mentioned "the ball to hand time" in league compared to union. In union it was 17 minutes out kf the 80 and in league it averaged at 67 minutes. No comparison.Whelley Warrior wrote:Perhaps we should do to people like Farrell, what Union clubs did when any of their players defected to League by banning them from the club?cpwigan wrote:They apparently see Sam B as a centre. Its about time league stuck up for its own game by putting people in the right jobs to promote the game instead of allowing it to be dissed by union biased faggots.
As you say WW ban farrel from ever showing bis head through a rugby league club office if he is determined to pull league talent away.

Re: Sam Burgess to Union
You lot are unbelievable, they are doing their jobs for christ sake. Why lower yourselves to the level of the Union tossers, if any RL players can go and earn decent money from the dark side so be it after all its a short career. We will always produce more talent and if some RL lads can help themselves to Union funds go for it.devon jim 1 wrote:I would extend that to Edwards and all players who have taken the 30 pieces of silver.Once gone never allowed to returnPM said -

obviously I would prefer they didnt play union, its shite and you shouldnt play unless your over 30 its a waste of talent.
As Laurie Daley said, "Rugby League is a simple game played by simple people, Rugby Union is a complex game played by w##kers."
