Community Stadium Re-named

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors are delighted to announce the latest Community Stadium Partners programme draw took place this week.

The programme devised by Sales Manager Joyce Pickles allows 25 companies the opportunity to network and advertise and to show their support of the continued development by the Club of its successful Youth Development programme.

The naming rights for the Stadium was won by Solid Strip Plastic Abrasives so for the next twelve months will be called the SOLID STRIP COMMUNITY STADIUM.

The quality training environment at the Orrell facility is the lynch-pin in the development of the Club's Players from Scholarship level all the way through to First Team. The companies were given the opportunity on Monday to see at first hand a typical days training as they were given a tour of the Training Ground and met the Club's Players and Coaching Staff.

A second draw was made with the Main Stand at the ground and is now known as the Truline Stand while the First Team Gym will be sponsored by Master Lock and Safe. The main photo above shows Paul Mullins from Solid Strip Plastic Abrasives along with Ian Lucas from Truline with Head Coach Shaun Wane and Players Liam Farrell, Dan Sarginson, Rob Lever and Dom Manfredi..

The Community Partners Programme will continue to run on a 12 month rolling contract with the naming rights available in a draw once more in May 2015 .

Hope all this sponsorship will result in some improvements being made to the facility including a scoreboard.

A scoreboard was put up. Originally the clubhouse was a bar but I am sure all fans would rather the club had a top class gym / training area for its players than a bar. A mobile food company provides hot food and drink.

Could have been a very good player for us were it not for injury.

Indeed. To be fair his biggest issue was that he was so big / strong as a junior that he simply ran through would be tacklers (earning the nickname Mal Meninga) and had never had to learn to take ride tackles as he had to as an adult player. He had finally started to solve that issue when the career ending 'injury' happened. He did have an antiques business when he finished playing.

A proper indoor refreshment/bar is needed and the lack of one is possibly why games like the the final of the Ken Gee Trophy and the Barla Lancashire Cup Final etc are never considered as a venue by Wigan & District ARL, Barla and others.

The Stadium should be used more and not just as a training ground and a venue for academy games.

It needs a lot of money spending on the terracing etc. The terracing in front of the gym/training rooms etc has been cordoned off for years :(
