I think you also need to consider the team building aspect of this, and I include the whiskey tasting too, the best teams are based on more than just physical skill, look at Salford.

In rugby and outside of rugby you need a group of people who work together and are willing to sacrifice for each other, hopefully this is what Wigan are trying to build.

No, you don't need to keep the leash short. They are professional players but more to point we are supposed to employ professional coaches who ought not to need gimmicks to keep the players interested.

It makes it look like they have run out of ideas when given recent performances some basic skills training is in order and for one or two an "RL for Dummies" book.

I am not sure what the reference to Cas is about but as far as I know Saturday's two finalists haven't been on any Whisky tastings or gone off training with an RU side.

The Whiskey tasting and going to train with Bath are two of the most unprofessional acts I have seen from the club in the last decade. There is no sports psychology here. Just someone or some people losing the plot.

We are repeatedly told and have been for X seasons how 'tight' this Wigan team are so team bonding has never been seen as an issue by the club.

I am not sure much was done bath v wigan. It seemed from the interviews / clips that our backs ran against their backs and so forth for a session. The forwards were not included for obvious reasons.

A comment was made that Wigan may have got their training wrong based on the GPS(?) monitors recently and have adjusted.

The worst part of the recent MMA session so close to the Hull KR game was that IMO it may have contributed to the penalties we conceded against Hull KR as the players seemed to want to implement what they had been using that week.

Hopefully everything will pay off and we will win the GF.

Might not have been clear but my reply was based on the post previous that this may have been a "team building" exercise, rather than skills building hence my reference to Cas. Cas this year look a lot more close knitt team under powell and want to play for eachother and i think the sum of their parts has been the reason for their success this year.

Personally i agree with most of your post in waht youre trying to say i think standards are slipping and again i think its tied in with what CP says about coaches effective time being around 3 years before things start to decline.

Doing something different breaks the monotony of day in day out training and with two weeks between games, freshens up the players and helps relieve any tensions that might exist.

Personally I like others have been concerned with 1). Our handling / execution of attack 2). How we come back after a break. 1 & 2 suggest to me that handling / execution of attack should be our priority no matter how mundane. The great Wigan teams of the 50's and 60's spent umpteen sessions no matter how mundane repeating their moves when in possession.

Has anybody been happy with our attack? I think even Wane has expressed a lack of satisfaction. Personally, I think some of the strategies used are wrong and Wane feels the execution is poor.

I just want a return to the team that destroyed opposition and had games won after 20 minutes. The longer the opposition feel they have a chance the more they strive and the greater the pressure on our players bodies / minds. Destroy teams early and you will see far less injuries / fatigue.

Totally agree with CP on this one, the way we played under Madge was IMO the perfect way to play RL. Blast the team off the park in the first 20mins of each half and manage the game from there.

You could argue that its not possible with all teams but the longer youre within 6-12 points of a team the better they play. They arent "chasing" the game at that stage and havent got clock fever. Asking a team to overturn 18 points means they have to start taking risks which inverably leads to errors

That may be true in that they have a good team spirit but I don't see why we should not have the same and why Whiskey tasting events are required.

Mind you earlier today I got an email off the club as a season ticket holder about the post match event after the Big One being something to do with Whiskey tasting so now you know why the pre-HKR event happened for the players.

My view is whatever Noble did he has been gone long enough for it to be irrelevant.

I also have a dubious view of any and all "team building events".

I have over the years I have worked been on plenty of these and you are not more "together" or "bonded" afterwards than when you went.

The reason for this is you already were a team before some numbskull tried to tell you had to be one. You did not need artificial scenarios to confirm it.

If our team need to be team building now, I give give up.
