Dumb tactics.
Widnes staring prop forwards made 173 meters yesterday.
Wigan's 62....62 meters what is all that about?
27 carries to 10. It's no wonder the completion of our sets was poor.
This is why I am a realist, the tactics won't change IMO. In a competition where the opposition is poor we are over complicating things far too often and not completing sets.
Good to see somebody else grasped what I have grown tired of repeatedly stating. Wane ball makes front rowers look awful and week after week you will get posters posting saying our forwards are poop, no go forward. Webcke / Ward / Platt / Roach whomever would look poop playing Wane ball.
Wane ball defies the basic philosophy of RL, you go forward BEFORE you go wide / lateral. You make the opposition have to tackle big and/or powerful forwards (front rowers) so that when the opposition do get the ball, their big forwards have had to expend energy doing the hard defensive stuff and have less energy to put into going forward. Our forwards end up looking less fit, more tired (THEY ARE NOT) whilst the opposition forwards look fit and fresh (WANE BALL!)
Surely, the players need to be standing up at meetings and questioning Wane Ball. They should be because 1). It exerts an incredibly amount of unnecessary toll upon their bodies 2). It makes winning far harder than it need be. Wane Ball = trying to play RL with your hands tied behind your back and/or your feet tied together.
The best thing that can happen is that it pours down non stop throughout the play offs and forces Wigan to play wet weather RL instead of Wane Ball.
Doug Laughton filled a team full of fantastic attackers at Widnes and still lateral RL failed far more than it succeeded. OUR team is far less suited to lateral RL than that great Widnes team were. A great Widnes team that fell more often than not to John Monie and an Australasian philosophy.
I can understand the young lads being too reluctant to speak out BUT it is up to the likes of Lockers (Wane ball is prematurely ending his career BTW), Micky Mac, Matty Smith, Matty Bowen and Greeny to speak up. Seniority brings responsibility to your team mates.
