Match Preview – Warriors v Warrington Wolves

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors welcome Warrington Wolves to the DW tonight for the second time in just three weeks and the stakes could not be higher with a place in the First Utility Super League Grand Final up for grabs.

The Warriors produced an amazing fight back on the 11th of September coming from 18-4 down at half time to record a 24-20 win thanks to tries from Josh Charnley (2), Joe Burgess and Blake Green. The Warriors have won the last three meetings between the sides including the 2013 Super League XVIII Grand Final last year.

The pair have played out numerous classic matches over the years with Wigan having the edge in the Super League era winning 27 compared to Warrington's 16. Two games have ended in a draw, that result not possible tonight with the game set to go to golden point extra time if level after 80 minutes.

Team news

Head Coach Shaun Wane makes just one change to his nineteen man squad from the 57-4 victory over Huddersfield Giants last time out, with Scott Taylor replacing Gil Dudson.
Meanwhile Tony Smith has included full-back Matty Russell in his squad, despite suffering a facial injury against Widnes a fortnight ago. Smith will make a late decision about whether he will play on Friday night.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

If russell plays the tactic has to be to pepper him all night long with bombs and put pressure on him
