Botica to Wigan

Post by jasonnlouise »

Saw this in yesterday's Sun newspaper that we are interested in Ben Botica, has anybody heard whether there's any truth in this? Also would he be a good signing as I've never seen him play?

I heard this as well! But not from the Sun
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Time ago now, playing Union for Wasps /not sure. Looked on the small side for Union, and poss not as good as our 3 halfbacks. Do we need a goal kicking winger?NO ,not really.

Think it was Quins. Not sure of his speed as a winger.Dad was a very good player for Wigan.,in a top team.,from memory.

I've always wondered if Wasps had a B team.

Saw that and wondered if he was being considered for centre. That's where we are thin on the ground and Shaun said the other night that Gildart isn't ready yet for first team rugby.
Thornley is injured and should either Sargy or Gells not be fit we are again going back to having 2nd rowers playing centre.
If we are going to recruit then perhaps centre is where we should be looking.

Ben Botica is a Fly Half/Centre and not a Winger but he is indeed a good goal kicker.

If he can kick up to his dad's standard, which I would doubt, he'd be worth his weight in gold!

Frano was a stand off ,but Wigan put him on wing ,to kick the conversions. His length was poor.He was a reasonable winger though.,and we were very good then,so everyone was happy. He might not be as good as his father, who was a decent All Black squad member.?

Wrong, Frano started on the Wing but ended up at Stand Off and how on earth can you say he had a poor length at goal kicking when he was one of the top five goal kickers ever to play for Wigan.

Farrell 1335
Richards 900
Botica 840
Tyrer 813

I'm guessing he actually meant his Union starting position at the time we signed him, not were we fitted him into the side.

As for kicking, one thing Botica never had was "strength" in his kicks. Most were beautifully stroked over with just enough energy for them to creep over the bar - so perhaps yet again that was his meaning as far as kicking from range was concerned?
