Stuart Cumins - Out

Post by Warrior Wills »

Is it me or are some of the new rules spoiling the game. The rule that stops players taking a quick tap is slowing the game down, and frustrating fans and players. Also the new accidental knock on rule need s to be changed to avoid confusion.

There is only one man to blame for this, - STUART CUMMINS. The man was the most over rated referee, who constantly made controversial and bad decisions. He must be saying the right things to the right people to get where he is today. The mans a joke!!!

While we are at it change the "on report" rule too, it’s a spineless act. The old refs never had a problem spotting a sending off offence.

I'm not sure how long you've been watching the game, but I'm not sure about this. I think refereeing standards have been about the same for as long as I remember. If you think refs were better a few years ago - just take a minute to ask yourself if the summers were hotter back then too! Reminiscence is a rosy thing...

If you actually read the message, you would note that I am not having a pop at todays refs. Its the rules that have just come into the game that are spoilling it!!!

Even old refs like Fred Lindop and Ronnie Campbell made some howlers. But at least the game would flow.

Some of the new rules are great eg. 40/20, stealing the ball one on one etc.

Why can't we admit when some of the new rules are crap!!

The problem is, they are not 'our' rules but the rules of the international game. Some of the rules of our misguided cousins Down Under (no offence PD and others on here!) are not easy to understand, including the knock-down rule. I seem to remember people raving about a certain Jamie Ainscough when he scored a try in the 2nd Origin game 2 years ago by using this same method of getting the ball. Thankfully some of these rules have not been taken up over here, such as the 'Refs call' for video decisions, but the international committee decided to adopt some of the other rules and these have been taken up by the league here so that our players are playing to the internationally-agreed rules of the game.

Myself, I agree that a knock-on is a knock-on not a knock-down, but on the other hand I'm happier for our players to get used to that in our league than for us to come up against it in a test series and not have a clue what's going on. You need to complain to the International Rugby League about the rules, it's as much them as Mr Cummings.
