Wane not interested in NRL players

I can't believe Shaun wane is still insistant on not even considering buying any NRL players, this season or next.
Surely he has noticed our lack of experienced leaders this year and, although we are now playing some good rugby,we could still improve with the odd NRL player.
Don't get me wrong I would love a team of wiganers winning everything on offer but these kids need experience helping them along.
All I'm saying is never say never and,if the right NRL player becomes available, then swallow your pride and bring them in.
In short lets lead the way. After all,it's a long season and Shaun loves to rest players(something which he hasn't done much of this season).
There's sooooo many quality players over there.Albeit they would jump at the chance to wear the most famous RL Jersey in the world

As we now can only attract rookies, fringe players and those at the end of a career and not top players at their peak from the NRL, his comments are not surprising, especially when their 'peak' players are having it put to them that if they come here, they will not be considered for International selection.

Well he's signed three players from the NRL in the last three seasons. It just happens that two of them are Moose and Sam! When the need plus availability of an experienced NRL player has occurred he's made the signing, Bowen. If he had looked to sign an NRL half this season it would have meant an extra year or two without any of the young halves we all expect great things off for years to come getting in the side - I think he made the right choice. The only other position we might have looked at was centre, but on form from last year they would have to have been a better than average player to keep Gelling and Sarg out in my opinion, so again he trusted the young players we have already.

Wane is not a good judge of a player, think MB, so where they come from is immaterial.

I got the impression from reading the article that he was having a pop at Wire signing Gidley more than anything.

MP, thats only one signing, can you think of many more you feel haven't been upto it.
Sam Tomkins, George Williams, Joel Tomkins return, Lee Mossop return. Not bad as I see it.

PM, he didn't sign them our scouts found them. I'll give him credit for Sarginson, Clubb, Tautai etc. though.

To say your not interested in recruiting an NRL player is silly in my view. If the likes of Inglis, Jennings etc. offered their services to Wigan at a reasonable price is Waney telling us he wouldn't bite their hands off! I think he needs to learn to tell a better, more meaningful story.

PM these are all fine players coming through our development system. Bringing in outside players is a different skill. Of course we know who is responsible for all theses individual positions, but big outside signings must be Wane? The rest are local lads and Mossop type boosters from elsewhere. To me Wane has failed to get the right players in the right positions in his reign so far,too often.

I don't think he's done that bad with signings, that is if your giving him the credit for them? You can't say oh Wanes signed the bad ones and everyone else is responsible for good ones! The only ones spring to mind are Gelling, Green, Smith, Taylor, Clubb, Sarge, Tautia, Bowen and Patrick. The others Tomkins X2 Moose and Thornley are returning and as the rest are home grown. I would say Green, Gells, Sarge, Clubb, Smith, Taylor, all good signings. Taylor just wants to go home, or his wife does? So not bad. The jury still out on T and Patrick... T is showing signs of being good and its still early re Patrick. Bowen has been a very good player his form for us a bit patchy he seems more off the cuff and he's probably come a couple of seasons to late, although I still like the guy some edge of seat stuff last year. I may have missed some but whoever is responsible I think they have done well up to now??

So did I, not that he wouldn't sign a quality young player if the opportunity presented itself
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
