Would you not consider him in a coaching role re kicking. We could regret seeing him kicking against us if he does indeed turn out for the Cats.Firestarter wrote:Yes I saw it.Seen all his games and he's still a gud un.Like I said before he's lost a bit of pace.I personally wouldn't sign him again, but meds is right that we have signed worse.Although I don't think we want him back we defo need a goal kicker next season.in some shape or form

He took the opportunity his sporting skills afforded him to come to the UK and sample life outside Oz when he was at the height of his NRL career having just played a significant part in his clubs GF win. So could have quite easily have stayed at home but chose not to.
Always respected Pat for this. As we have just seen with Sam T it's not always so simple to up sticks and move to a new country. Pat did it with his eyes wide open as a part of a plan to see more of the world.
As a player I think the boat has far from sailed. He might be 33 be he is still a top player playing 1st grade NRL.
His goal kicking is fantastic and his immense dropouts are tactically superb pinning the opposition right back in their own half.
Before this rumour broke and when at the Salford game I was reminded of his dropouts and not in a good way. There was one from Smith that brought groans from the crowd it was so downright pathetic and I expect every person who was groaning was lamenting the lack of anyone who can do a decent drop out and thinking of Pat's.
I'd have him back without hesitation. He has no fitness issues I am aware of compared to Bowen for example and his dodgy knees.![]()

Not even Pat could improve Smith's kicking! We need a new goalkicker full stop. If Smith wasn't our kicker do you think he would be in the team given his level of performance this season?medlocke wrote:Tomkins, Mossop & Thornley, have any of them set SL on fire since coming back? i think not, did these 3 players excel in Union and the NRL?, not really, is Pat performing well in the NRL? Yes, he would be worth bringing back for 1 last season imo he would add competition for spaces, his kicking would be invaluable and he could also work with Smith and one or two others on there kickingWhelley Warrior wrote:Is there anything you like like at the club or is it that you just like 'fishing' ?medlocke wrote:We've had worse come back lately

Tough one for me,my heart says yes but my head says no because of his age,but if he does come back to the SL,whereever it may be i cant wait to see him again top class player.
Re: Pat Richards to Catalan
I agree I thinking kicking is a talent and if you don't have it you don't have it - maybe smith is feeling the pressure of being a goal kicker rather than just concentrating on his game plan.shaunedwardsfanclub wrote:Not even Pat could improve Smith's kicking! I think Smith is a good player but is limited and works better in partnership with the right guy beside him. I don't think it is the pressure of being a goalkicker that is effecting his performances. I just think he's not good enough at kicking goals whether he is playing well or poorly and his poor performances are down to not being comfortable with his teammates just now. This often happens in sports when a team within a team get split. Often what one player does can make his teammate look like a star but starved of this partnership said player can regress to the mean. Imo Smith looked his best playing beside Green and Lockers. Two very experienced, highly talented players. Now the team are looking to him to show a bit of leadership, game wise not shouting and bawling, and its not happening. Anyway, I digress. I'd have Pat back in a heartbeat. Even if it were to play in a different position from the wing.bomhead wrote:I agree I thinking kicking is a talent and if you don't have it you don't have it - maybe smith is feeling the pressure of being a goal kicker rather than just concentrating on his game plan.shaunedwardsfanclub wrote:Not even Pat could improve Smith's kicking! Re: Pat Richards to Catalan
We need to remember that Pat went back to get his two young kids settled in school over there, but he certainly embraced the European lifestyle.

More I think about Richards, the more I miss him at Wigan. What a player, what a star, what a man.
Probably my favourite player in recent times.
