Abundance of youth competing for same positions

Post by matelot62 »

I feel that because of the abundance of youth we have and the fact there is no U21'anymore ,I feel like the likes of Tierney,Powell,Lloyd,Doran and possibly Hampshire won't be at the club next season.I don't see Lloyd staying.I think he's pretty average. These guys want regular first team football and if a club came in for them on a permanent deal I think they'd go.I don't see Greg Burke coming back either.Hughes is 'supposedly' off to Wire and even though he's not a youth player I don't think Larne Patrick fits the bill either. What are other peoples opinions on our youth?

firstly Matelot this isn't a rumour so Josie will have you lol and 2nd where/are you a sailor?

I think its a shme that we cant keep all or youth but that is the nature of the beast speaking of beasts I tink if shaun wane likes you you are in f not bye bye - I maybe wrong but that is how I se it.

we never gave Llyod a shot but we paid big money for JT to come back and I don't think he deserves his1st team number at the moment.

as for the others not really given time but wigan youth will find it hard because every team raises their game against us - you can't hide anywhere and your mistakes are highlighted

welcome

No need to apologise :)

Welcome to the mad house ????
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I think there are a number of players who are entering their early 20's who if they want to see first team football will need to leave Wigan.

I also think Wigan need to face up to this and be pro-active about it and decide who they want to keep and release the rest.

There will be another generation pushing up from underneath soon.

We also need a balance of youth and experience and so can't save places in the first team squad for them all.

We have over 30 players in our first team squad and I think IL sees this as an asset but I think the reality is that it spreads the £1.8m of the salary cap a bit thin.

In my opinion we need at least a couple of players from outside the club of some quality (so not cheap) which will probably mean letting a few young players leave.

Your last comment has my full agreement and a top class play maker Stand off should be number one priority.

Hampshire - Stand Off?
With the rumours of Sarginson departing to NRL and Thornley shipped off elsewhere (sale/loan?), a decent centre would be higher priority?

if you look at SL clubs on a whole our recruitment has to improve massively whether it be youth or new signings

both of the wolfs  youth that they brought on against us played brilliant!! the hooker is from ince and the other forward is from shevy sharks - I know we provide a lot of clubs with talent from wigan but we really should have the best and biggest here in my opinion also look at the championship - sam didn't work out from leigh but we shouldn't give up. how did Hull Kr land Dixon at FB and we got bowen if IL is so set on us being tied with London how come we don't get the best of their youth

Re Dixon - he was always a flying machine at London on the wing but had no defensive capability whatsoever. HKR shrewdly kept the pace and eliminated most of the defensive problems by putting him at full-back, while working on him to improve the basics of his defence.
Of course, such a ridiculous plan could never work with Dan Sarginson.....................
