Re: London game confirmed
And how many of those 300,000 went to the stoop to watch Cats?
Re: London game confirmed
Don't know about purchase history. Guess you can register on line or via the ticket office phone no on the link above.bmp1970 wrote:Thanks..doc wrote:Prices, bar the Barry Kitchener stand, are similar to our home games (see link)bmp1970 wrote:First time I've sat through a Rugby League game last night thought it was great, todays was even better.
I live in London and fancy gong to the game at The Den but checked the prices which are quite high.
Do you have to be a member to qualify for a discount or can anyone get these tickets at a discounted price when they go on sale on 10th August?
Thanks in advance..

I personally think RL is best viewed from behind the goal so think of it as being the equivalent of watching Man Utd vs Everton for twenty quid.
To qualify for the 20% discount for 'Wigan fans' do I just register an account or will I need previous purchase history?
Re: London game confirmed
RL is IMO far better to watch from behind the sticks but often seating regulations require you to sit along the touchlines.
Re: London game confirmed
As an aside, a very unattractive international friendly was staged at The Den last year - Australia v Ecuador. A match simply designed to prepare both for the World Cup.i'm spartacus wrote:And how many of those 300,000 went to the stoop to watch Cats?
It attracted an attendance of just over 7,000, on a Wednesday night in March.
So, you should aim to at least match that - being that your game will be a competitive fixture, and on a Saturday in early September (it is still warm down here then

As, for the Stoop..that's so far out in suburbia that the French ex-pats would have probably been better off getting to Paris on the Eurostar in quicker time!!

Out of interest how many do Catalans average at home (excluding away fans)?cpwigan wrote:The Cats as opposition is a great idea. There are approximately 300,000 French people living in London and also albeit in decline a significant Australian population who might well be interested in seeing Todd Carney play.
Doubt many if any French people in London will go, a few Austarlians will providing it gets advertised in the free Metro and Standard newspapers.
The attendance obviously will rely on how many Wigan bring down then add maybe 1,000 on top of that..

The Dockers Stand at The Den will have the sun shinning in your eyes until about half way through the second half of a 3pm kick off...so take sun glasses or a cap if you sit there and it's sunny.
I am a well informed covert operative at least...(bar reading the London Bridge Experience advert on the scoreboard wrong for years

CPW is just playing "the politics of the message board". You don't think he actually believes a word of what he is posting do you?gruffy wrote:You mean like the many other times we've tried to sell the sport to them?cpwigan wrote:Hopefully, the RFL / Wigan RLFC will be trying to sell big time to Londoners / Southerners. The intention / ambition is commendable.
At some point someone has to stand up and accept, for the most part this is a northern sport,Union has the rugby viewers down south.
He can be seen to be positive without danger of inadvertently praising Wane

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: London game confirmed
For what it's worth, I'll give my background and feelings on this matter.
I was brought up on football and union, 3 years ago I moved to Sydney. Season tickets at the Roosters were $100 (50 quid) for a whole season, and having few friends initially I thought it was worth a go. So having only ever seen one game before (actually an All Stars v Indigenous All Stars game about 12 months previously whilst on business) I was now a Roosters member. The Roosters were coming off a pretty poor season and I was advised that I'd picked a poor team to go for. It turns out they won the Minor Premiership and GF in my first year as a member. Of course I renewed my membership and although we didn't make the GF in the second year we were still Minor Premiers. After all this I love rugby league.
I moved back to the UK 6 months ago and set up in London, having not lived here before. I went looking for a team to support. In the last few months I've been to see London Skolars, and the Broncos a couple of times, and also been up to see Salford. Nothing is really getting close to the rugby league I'm used to, though the passion is certainly there. Recently I've been watching the SL Show on iPlayer and of course following the Challenge Cup on BBC, which I must say do a good job of selling the game. One way or another I've come to admire Wigan, I was at the World Club Challenge in Sydney and although my team (the Roosters) won quite comfortably, the Wigan fans were outstanding throughout. My links with Wigan are fairly loose, I'll be honest, but I have no stronger ties to anyone else.
So imagine my joy to hear that Wigan are playing a regular season (sort of) game in London! I've gone out and got a red and white striped rugby shirt and can't wait for tickets to go on sale. You'll very soon have a signed up Wigan fan.
I can't pretend that there are hundreds, tens or even one other person in my situation, but what I am saying is that there is definitely the potential for Wigan to engage a group of people who have a RL sized hole in their life.
I hope Wigan do this properly, and I hope they come back once a year.
