McIllorum signs new deal
Wigan Warriors are pleased to inform 2015 Season Ticket holders that Michael McIlorum has signed a further two-year contract extension which will see him stay with Wigan until the end of 2019, having already signed a new deal in 2014.
McIlorum, an England international and product of the famous Wigan Academy, has made 208 appearances for the Wigan Club since his debut in 2007.
Originally from Leeds, McIlorum joined the Warriors in 2005 after impressing Dean Bell, Wigan's then Head of Youth, before quickly progressing through the Academy.
McIlorum played a vital role in helping secure the Warriors’ double success in 2013 before helping the team return to the Grand Final in 2014. A fractured eye socket picked up in the semi-final ruled him out of the Old Trafford showpiece against St Helens and has made him even more determined to see Wigan back at Old Trafford again this year.
Wigan Warriors Chairman, Ian Lenagan, said:
“The Wigan Club prides itself on producing players of the highest calibre through our Academy and in Michael McIlorum there is no finer example.
“Having signed for the Academy in 2005, Michael has matured greatly and in recent years played a pivotal role in Wigan's league and cup success. He is one of the finest Number 9's in the sport and is known for his tough, uncompromising style. Michael is a model professional off the field and a fantastic role model for any young person.
“We are delighted to have secured his services for a further two years as we look to build further success around players like him.”
Wigan Warriors Head Coach, Shaun Wane, said:
“The mark of a player is what his fellow professionals say about him and Micky is held in the highest regard here at Wigan and amongst the rest of Super League.
“He is consistently one of our best performers week in, week out and the fans love him here. One of the toughest players I have ever seen play the game, he doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves at times. On current form, he has to be a contender for the Man of Steel Award.”
Michael McIlorum said:
“Having signed a new deal last year, I wasn’t really expecting this but I am flattered that the club rate me so highly. I didn’t hesitate to sign this new deal.
“Having been at Wigan for ten years, the place now feels like home. Like the rest of the team, I’m focused on finishing the season well and getting back to Old Trafford starting with a huge game this Friday against Leeds.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I am so happy with this news!
Good work from all concerned and nice to see a bit of loyalty from a very good player

Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
