Yes I do......contracts mean something not nothing as you stated!!Wintergreen wrote:Perhaps he will, maybe he won't. Either way it's money accruing to IL, if he want's to spend it on players, he can do. If he want's to pocket it, spend it on salaries, spend it on a new marketing ploy...........TrueBlueWarrior wrote:When I say 'we' I mean Wigan RL Club, I don't distance myself from the club, I just see it as money received to spend on the club which IL has clearly done in the past.Wintergreen wrote: When you say "we" I presume you mean IL?
Absolutely there could be a transfer fee if he goes, but from a supporters perspective a new contract guarantees (and therefore changes) nothing.
I'm sure you get the picture.

Congratulations extended to a good no. 9. But does this mean we'll have to wait till 2019 before we recruit a class one. Cue my mate TB W

Good stuff. It is nice to see the club extending contracts before the existing deal expires, all we have to do now is make sure that they are fulfilled. It is a pity that we couldn't do the same with Budgie, maybe the management team has learned their lesson!

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

There's talk that Leeds were interested in his availability and the possibility of him going there.
I guess the new contract could be Wigan and MM's response to that?
A Leeds man who became a Wiganer, something me and McIlorum have in common.

Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured. Rugby League players spend 80 minutes pretending they're not.

I think it might be more to do with the more room on the cap with the marquee player and him getting rewarded for his performances and importance to the team.yokozuna wrote:There's talk that Leeds were interested in his availability and the possibility of him going there.

His attitude has been outstanding and he's lifted the team on many occasions.

Tonight Sky suggested that before the two year extension the Whinoes tried to poach him to come back 'home'

Yeah, thats been mentioned on here too. Even if its reactive, its good to see the management are looking to prevent these moves where they think its right.
Re: McIllorum signs new deal
While in theory you are right I think you can spot a mile off the players who will see their contracts out.Wintergreen wrote:I really rate McIllorum, but really?
Haven't we seen enough evidence to realise that a contract means zip?
Faz is one. He's on a long term deal and MM is another.
Mind you that said the offers both players got must have suited them but now signed up I don't think they will look elsewhere.
We have had players honour contracts before, such as Pat, Tommy L and others. It is not inevitable players break contracts.
I am sure if he had wanted to MM could have got a contract elsewhere but clearly he was happy with the offer.
So well done for IL for coming up with a deal one of our best (and one of my favourite) players felt he could accept. Now he has I am confident he will see the contract out.
