Sarginson’s Season Over

England centre to miss remainer of 2015

Scans show severe damage to hamstring tendon

Sarginson vows to come back stronger in 2016

Shaun Wane today confirmed that Dan Sarginson will miss the remainder of the 2015 season with a hamstring injury.

England International Sarginson limped off towards the end of Wigan’s 26-24 win over Leeds in the Super League Round 21 fixture in July.

It had been hoped that he would be able to recover to play a further part in Wigan’s Super 8s run-in however scans have shown severe damage to the hamstring tendon with Dan recently going under the knife.

“It’s been a tricky situation with Dan,” said Wane. “We really wanted to give him every chance to play again this year but after our medical staff and a couple of other medical experts who specialise in this area looked into it we agreed that this was the only real option.

“We’re gutted, as is Dan, it’s a bad time to lose a first team centre but we’ve no alternative but to keep working together as a team to make sure the loss does not affect us.

“John Bateman has done well at centre recently, young Oliver Gildart looks at home in the first team whilst we’ve Anthony Gelling fit again now so we’ve options there and it will be business as usual.”

Dan Sarginson said:

“I’m gutted with the news, no player likes picking up injuries but it’s part and parcel of playing professional Rugby League.

“My aim now is to work hard with my rehabilitation and to come back stronger next season.”

Hope his re-hab goes well and he comes roaring back, even if he is leaving us. A very likeable person who's had some rotten luck.

This is no news. He pulled the tendon off the bone. That's months and months to heal and rehab.

We know it's not 'news' but at least the club has decided to inform us, albeit a bit late, we now know more details instead of rumour chat!

Not fussed really if you listed all the centres in superleague, id probably see him being around the 15th-25th position if he was lucky

overrated because he is from london

Would you rather have him playing ahead of Gildart though honestly?

If so, would you rather have him ahead of Bateman who can go back into 2nd row?

Yeah I'd have him ahead of gildart presently but I'd like to see charnley at centre if I'm honest it's probably an option I'd take

Surely with Burgess back fit now, will Wane likely remove Bateman or Gildart to test Charnley there at this stage of the season?

I personally don't think he has the defensive ability to be centre, nor the passing capability. Burgess has set up 11 tries this year, displaying his ability to break lines and pass. I just don't have that same thought for Charnley.

Why all the nonsense about Charnley now that a new kid on the block in Manfredi has emerged?

We should be thankful we have three class Wingers at the moment keeping the pressure on each other.

I am more concerned about who will be the third Winger next season When Burgess has gone!
