Warriors still on course for London game
IAN Lenagan says Wigan are on course to tying up an ‘on the road’ home game in 2016.
The Warriors moved a match from the DW Stadium to London last season to strengthen their ties in the capital.
At the time, Lenagan said they intended to repeat the move next season.
And he revealed plans are progressing to stage one of their 11 regular-season Super League matches to the Big Smoke.
“We’re close to it,” he said. “We need to speak some more but we need want it to be a regular season game, rather than a Super 8s game, because it would give us more time to market the game and sell tickets.”
Lenagan ranked attracting a crowd of 8,101 to Millwall’s The Den for their last London adventure as one of the highlights of last season.
He said if the game went ahead in 2016, it would almost certainly be at the same venue – Fulham and QPR had previously been touted as possible hosts.
The move was not without its critics, with some fans unhappy they had to make a 450-mile round trip to watch a game which would otherwise have been played at the DW Stadium.
Lenagan, though, said it was important to broaden Wigan’s supporter-base and corporate ties. The club launched a London Business Club last season and operates an office on Buckingham Palace Road.
Under the radical structure introduced this year, clubs only know their first 23 fixtures – up until the end of July – before the competition breaks into the Super 8s phase, when each get seven extra games.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I enjoyed it too, except for our seats. They were the on the top tier & on the very back row, a steward had to help me to my seat as it was difficult for me to get up the steps, I never moved the whole game! It was freezing as well cos of the draft at the back of us ????Fujiman wrote:I really enjoyed the day out at Millwall last year and look forward to this one wherever it is. But I'd still go again but get seats on the lower tier next time

Millwall was a good away day .We we're well received by the club. Only down side not as accessible as north or west London clubs such as qpr using public transport. A return should be embraced as Wigan should push the boundaries of were Rigby league is played. If Wigan are not best placed to do this which other club could or would make more of an impact?

Its not supposed to be about a nice day out, but promoting the club and the profile of the game in the London area.
As for the crowd of so called crowd of 8,100, anyone who was at the game last season will know it was nothing like that figure and most who were there were supporters of Wigan.
Lets leave it to the Challenge Cup Final and a proper day out!

Apart from your usual bit of being sarcastic, what's your opinion on the crowd and what the venture achieved ?Mike wrote:How dare you enjoy it!Whelley Warrior wrote:Its not supposed to be about a nice day out, but promoting the club and the profile of the game in the London area.

Instead of taking other peoples comments out of context, what is your opinion of the venture?josie andrews wrote:I promise never again to enjoy going to watch Wigan Warriors home or away, win or lose!!Mike wrote:How dare you enjoy it!Whelley Warrior wrote:Its not supposed to be about a nice day out, but promoting the club and the profile of the game in the London area.

3-5 thousand at most and id say 95% were wearing red.
Very questionable how many "new supporters/investors" this has actually brought.
