Re: Warriors still on course for London game
i think i posted at the time
the game in London is not about the normal fan, although it is a good day out for us and many of us will go where ever Wigan play
its all about raising Wigan's profile in the Corporate business community & more particularly - London where there is massive potential (i know we have been trying for x number of years etc etc) but if we dont try - we will never succeed - so i am all for it
some of the major companies who were there would be unlikely to be attracted to a game in Wigan (normally)
i suppose the measure of the success of it will be announcing a major corporate sponsor - which without looking at the details of our new sponsor appears to have been missed this year

Being selfish - it was a great chance to get to see the team up close. It was a pretty decent crowd - no Cats fans (well, not many) because their season was over in the Super 8s. The whole day was well put together by the club apart from not opening the walkway into The Den, which was a good ground to hold the fixture.
Need to advertise the match locally around the ground - no one knew that it was on and keep the atmosphere.
As for public transport - it's only one stop and 5 minutes from London Bridge and there are buses around. Guess the club needs to do a little more work in advertising.
I do feel more than sorry for season-ticket holders though - I'd be fed up if I lived in Wigan and had to travel 200 miles for a home match.

Can you not take a joke?Whelley Warrior wrote:Instead of taking other peoples comments out of context, what is your opinion of the venture?josie andrews wrote:I promise never again to enjoy going to watch Wigan Warriors home or away, win or lose!!Mike wrote: How dare you enjoy it!
For it or against it, or like myself, will go anywhere just go to have enjoy a few beers and enjoy watching the the rugby!
Win, draw or lose!
For a start, I don't drink 'beers', an occasional fruit cider but I'm more well known for my cranberry juice, ask Dan Sarginson & a few of the other players! And before you say with what in it? nothing, just pure cranberry juice. So much so after years of asking they now sell it in the DW lounge bars.
I enjoyed the day out & yes, as long as I am fit, able & healthy enough to follow Wigan Warriors play wherever, I will continue to do so.

No idea on the crowd because it's too far for me to get there. Seems like a worthwhile thing for the club to try to me. Don't know whether it will meet expectations inside the club, but I think you think it won't.Whelley Warrior wrote:Apart from your usual bit of being sarcastic, what's your opinion on the crowd and what the venture achieved ?Mike wrote:How dare you enjoy it!Whelley Warrior wrote:Its not supposed to be about a nice day out, but promoting the club and the profile of the game in the London area.
I was being sarcastic I suppose for which I apologise. I was just surprised at you criticising a fan for having had a good time on their day out. It seems you wanted them to be critical of the endeavour and not to have enjoyed the game because of that. Seemed amusing that someone would go so far in their thinking to me. Each to their own though.

Glad to see that someone else could see what I meant about the purpose of the venture before jumping in at the deep end by taking my comment about enjoying the day out of context.the pieman wrote:i think i posted at the time

If I recall correctly, Gavin Willacy, of No Helmets Required fame, writing in the Guardian online at the time, was equally scathing about the stated crowd numbers but was put in his place, because, apparently, the attendance was accredited.
