Post by R Douglas »

Is there any chance that Andy Farrell will return to Wigan as Assistant Coach for 2016?

No. Why would he? He has no reason to. His family is settled, Owen plays RU & Farrell is a coach in RU. Plus there's the small thing called money that will keep them all there also we wouldn't understand him now he's totally lost his "Wigan" accent ????????

John Winder is the assistant coach.

I would not write him off comming back to league at some point. He has been pushed out of international set up and taking a lot of flak and blame for there failure in world cup. Even players are now jumping on bandwagon to stick knife in. Money not everything if your not appreciatted are even wanted.Owen will only keep him in union for so long. From where I am standing it's move over Sam it is now Farrells turn to take flak. The question is can he stand the heat.

No thank you, he set his stall out when he took the thirty pieces of silver to Union and deprived our game of a future Wigan player and certain Rugby League International.

Dont agree WW.Farrell knew his body was done with RL. In fact he did Wigan a favour getting out when he did saved us a fortune. As for his son If thats what he chose to play then good luck to him Andy robbed no one of nothing it was not he's disicion to make. I do agree with you not wanting him back at wigan but purely for coaching reasons only.

So, you seemingly despise Faz for him depriving our club of a potentially great player and he took the Union money instead of showing loyalty to Wigan? Yet, you still say that Edwards is one of your favourite players and you don't seem to have any problem of him plying his trade in Union? Would you also have been so vitriolic in your dislike of Edwards had he also played out the last few years of his career in Union, where he was guaranteed one last big pay day?

You can't have it both ways.

Owen Farrell was touted as being a potential league superstar. So has Rocky Hampshire and many others, yet they've not exactly set the world on fire. Players like Edwards, Andy Farrell, Sam Tomkins etc only come around every so often and just because his dad was a fine, fine player, doesn't mean that Owen would have been as well. Bar his kicking I don't think he's exactly set the Union world on fire making breaks through the defence, tries out of nothing, winning games single handedly (kicking penalties doesn't count).

That is so true. His body was shot at, don't forget Whelley he was playing top flight rugby from being a young teenager when tackling was more aggressive than it is now & players do not get away 'as much' with the hidden fisticuffs in tackles!

As for his son, he was young when they moved. I think cpwigan commented that he did commute back & forth to St Pats for training & games but it was bound to prove too much eventually.

You never know, both could come back eventually!

Andy was effectively coaching Wigan before he left for Union. I can never recall Faz giving anything less than 100% in cherry and white and in my book he is a legend (a term that I use very rarely). Those that criticise him have got very short memories, as Josie says he was finished and playing on empty when he left the club and in the end we got a tidy transfer fee for a guy who had given his all for well over a decade. Would I have him back on the coaching staff, why not? Less we forget we have recruited others that have not had one once of the talent that Faz possessed.

Nnnnnnnnnoooooooooo thank you, I'm not interested what he and his son decided to do with their life's, that is their personal business and they have every right to choose where, what and when they do anything...

that said!

I don't like how the man conducts himself and I'm not surprised he has failed as a coach...

Farrell set his stall out not only to get more money in Union at the end of his playing career, but more so to take his Son Owen to Union.

Yes, Owen did come back to Wigan to play games for St Patricks and from what I have been told wanted to stay in Wigan with a relative, but was persuaded to do otherwise by Andy who saw a bigger future for his Son, both financially and playing wise in Union, especially at International level which has a higher profile than our game.

For that you can hardly blame Andy, but at the same time the fact remains that a potential Rugby League Star and International was taken away from our game.

p.s. And I am not the only one in Wigan who has that opinion!
