For my money Gildart is a class act, he is young and still learning but could well develop into a Gary Connolly type centre.

I agree, I thought he was superb last night, possibly his best game yet.

Gildart is indeed going to be a great Centre and future International, but the fact remains that he is still inexperienced and needs to be handled carefully with first team appearances.

Last night, he was outstanding against Leeds, but in the previous home game against Salford who were better than Leeds, he had a poor game.

I for one do not want to see any up and coming young player ruined by more experienced players as was the case in the seventies with a young outstanding Prop Forward called Dennis Ashcroft who was played far too early on a regular basis and by the time he was in his mid twenties was a spent force and faded from the game.

Wane to his credit as a former good player knows how to handled up and coming young players as he has shown with Williams, Crosby, Sutton, Burke, Tierney etc.

Hence why our squad is vital. It may be in some game Sarge steps in to play centre BUT giving youth opportunities is a win win particularly or long term success. Remember, this was Watkins he faced last. Remember too. Your team mates inside / outside can make you look good / poor

I've been calling for Gildart to be back at centre all season. He's such a naturally gifted centre and to me it made no sense to leave him out for Sarginson given he completely lacks a centres instincts. It will be great to see Gildart develop.

I said the same thing. That should have made the place his for the foreseeable future.

I am still not convinced by Gelling. I don't think he has any more vision than Sarge and in the first half he gave a daft pass that was nearly intercepted. The advantage he has over Sarge is size but I don't think he is any better vision wise.

I think his vision for the assist was pretty good, and his vision to spot the gap for his try wasn't bad either, clutching at straws with the he gave a daft pass that was nearly intercepted, I will take the try and assist over that any day of the week!! Many quality players throw passes that are nearly intercepted or actually are!

Unlike some my opinion isn't based on how a player goes in one game. Gelling has a lot to prove due to his past misdemeanours.

As to Gildart I do find it funny others are suggesting Wane was easing him into the side when he put Sarge back in at centre.

According to Wane the reason he ended up there v Leeds was because he wanted a change at full back, not because he wanted Gildart at centre. Gildart then goes and shows him how good he is against one of the top centres in SL.

He strikes me as a player as capable as a young Sam Tomkins such that as with him, if you are good enough you are old enough. Budgie was the same. Too good to leave out.

Will you be convinced by Gelling if he continues to play the way he did last night, as I honestly see him like that most of the time. I'd be happy to pay my entrance fee to watch that lad play. He's maybe off the cuff, but he puts in some hard graft and when things come off when he gets it right, it's top drawer.
Maybe I'm the half full glass with him and yours is the half empty one. I just hope he keeps proving your thoughts about him wrong.

So is that the only good game Gelling has had?

Yes he has made some mistakes but without him on many occasions we would have been on our backsides!!

Most of people's opinions of Gelling on here aren't just based on one game. Many do see the good things he does that far outweigh the negatives you keep raising. Gildart and Gelling are our best centre pairing.
