Correct. It would be a bit unprofessional to announce Solomona at this juncture!Fujiman wrote:He could just be keeping his cards close to his chest.

Re: No winger targeted yet?
There wouldn't be a problem with announcing a signing to replace Josh because everybody knows Josh has decided to leave. There's been no announcement because we haven't made a signing. The press find it easy to speculate that Wigan are interested in anyone whose available(probably encouraged by player's agents). I'm just worried that we appear not be planning ahead as early as possible. Most of our recent signings have just 'fallen into out lap' e.g. Sam wanted to come home, Bateman was suddenly available (we didn't plan it) and we found out that Isa was out of contract. Now we did well to make these signings but doesn't the manner of these signings imply we weren't planning to sign anybody at those times? Is our squad really so good that we can afford to wait until somebody 'top class' becomes available? Have we got space on the cap and are we prepared to spend the cash?

Well after last night's showing we have to hope that if we do sign Solomona we don't play him at full back. I hadn't realised it before but having seen Magraff Leuluai for the first time he is quite evidently Thomas' big brother????

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Have you considered that Wane will say that so that other clubs do not get a sniff of who the club is going to sign for next season.southportcdm wrote:Just seen the report where Waney is quoted as having said that he's not yet targeted a winger for next year. If the report is accurate, why not? Surely you have to start planning these things asap so as not avoid losing out on the best players available. Perhaps I'm missing the point somewhere but if we don't sign a very good winger our first 13 will be weaker next season. If this is the way that we plan for the future we may as well scrap all the rumours until the end of the season when other clubs have signed the good players and we'll then pick up the best(or cheapest) of what's left.
A few seasons ago, I recalled the club announcing that they were after a certain well known star International player, but the player ended up at another club as a result of the publicity and was outstanding at that club.
Perhaps the club has learned from that mistake and the reason they now keep quiet on possible signings and they are announced when actually signed.

Matt King was one and Ali Lauitiiti was another whose names were linked with Wigan and went elsewhere. I believe that Wigan have asked about Carney, Solomona and Jonhstone. Obviously Carney has since signed for Salford, so I guess it's a case of wait and see. I don't expect to hear anything until it's a done deal, and quite rightly so.Whelley Warrior wrote:Have you considered that Wane will say that so that other clubs do not get a sniff of who the club is going to sign for next season.southportcdm wrote:Just seen the report where Waney is quoted as having said that he's not yet targeted a winger for next year.
