Anthony Gelling ruled out for six weeks with pectoral injury
Dom Crosby also unlikely to play this weekend
Sean O’Loughlin, Sam Tomkins and Joel Tomkins all set to return with late fitness tests on George Williams and Dan Sarginson
Wigan Warriors Head Coach Shaun Wane today confirmed that Anthony Gelling will miss the next six weeks after picking up a pectoral injury in last week’s win over Widnes.
Gelling only returned to the side just two weeks ago but now faces another spell on the sidelines.
“Anthony had a scan on his chest and they’ve identified a pectoral injury so he’s going to be out for around six weeks. That’s a real shame for us.” Wane said.
Wane also gave an update on prop-forward Dom Crosby who dislocated an elbow during the game, before returning to the field.
“For Dom to dislocate an elbow and then go back on shows just how tough he is. He’s a real workhorse and a tough player for us, he gives us a lot. I’m trying to get him right for this weekend, but it’s looking unlikely.”
Despite the Warriors’ luck with injuries this year Wane refused to be too downbeat.
He said: “Every Super League club has injuries and that’s why you have squads with 30-odd players, and that’s what makes it exciting.
“When you’re giving debuts to the likes of Jake Shorrocks and potentially Josh Ganson, I find it an exciting time with injuries. It’s just part of playing a contact sport.”
The Warriors Head Coach does expect a few influential names to return to his side in time for the fixture, with Sean O’Loughlin, Joel Tomkins and Sam Tomkins expected to feature with late fitness tests due on George Williams and Dan Sarginson.
Wane confirmed that the Warriors will appeal the one-match handed to Ben Flower.
Wigan Warriors face Castleford Tigers in the Challenge Cup Quarter-Final at the DW Stadium on Saturday 25th June. Tickets for this game are available from the DW Stadium Ticket Office, the Ticket Hotline – 0871 6633 552 and online HERE.

Gelling out
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Gelling out
Gelling didnt look anywhere near his best in the couple of games back,to me at least so no surprise he's on the sidelines again.
Re: Gelling out
Have to wonder the decision making to bring him back when they did, sounds like it was a long way off fully healed when he went back into the side.
Re: Gelling out
Regardless of what you think of Gelling as a player we definitely need another centre for next season.
With Sarge going (not that he is that good a centre anyway) one injury to Gelling or Gildart and it's forwards in the backs again disrupting the pack.
Due to Bateman's suspension we don't have this option for the cup game.

Agreed Davo.sarge is no world beater and with Bateman banned ide hate to have Joel back at centre again.DaveO wrote:Regardless of what you think of Gelling as a player we definitely need another centre for next season.
