Nuuausala - Ten Facts

Last night we announced the signing of New Zealand international Frank-Paul Nuuausala.
The 29-year-old joins Wigan with immediate effect and is expected in the UK within the next few weeks.

Here are ten facts on Wigan’s newest signing.

1. Made NRL debut for Sydney Roosters in 2007 after having played as a junior for New Zealand Warriors

2. Cemented spot in the forwards for the Roosters in 2009 before representing New Zealand in Four Nations

3. Made try-scoring debut for the Kiwis in 20-20 draw with Australia at the Stoop, London

4. Played in 2010 NRL Grand Final for Roosters in 32-8 defeat to St George-Illawarra Dragons

5. Played in every game for New Zealand at 2010 Four Nations including Final win over Australia

6. Extended his contract with the Roosters in 2013 before going on to play in the NRL Grand Final win over Manly

7. Played in 2013 World Cup for New Zealand including the Final defeat to Australia

8. Faced Wigan in the 2014 World Club Challenge for the Roosters

9. Moved to Canberra for 2015 season and played every game during last year

10. Signs for Wigan Warriors on three-and-a-half-year deal in June 2016

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Perhaps it was because he was not happy there!

How did we get this signing under our salary cap, when, apparently, we had to ask for special dispensation to play some youngsters a few weeks ago that took us over the cap?

I think that was more to do with player numbers.

Fair enough, but could you elaborate because I'm somewhat confused on this matter.

I think you have to ask for permission to use extra players that are outside of the original 25 man squad, we had to do this due to our injuries. This wasn't special dispensation in terms of wages, just amount of players used.

From Wikipedia:
2016 started with a bang for Nu'uausala, with his moronic play in round 4 against the Gold Coast Titans costing the Raiders a victory. After leading 20-6 midway through the second half, the Raiders conceded two tries, which reduced their lead to 20-18 with less than five minutes remaining in the game. When the Raiders kicked off from halfway following a Titans try, Nu'uausala shoulder charged Ryan James in the back as he ran downfield, giving the Titans a cheap penalty which they capitalised on, scoring in the 79th minute to win the game 24-20.
