I know I criticise him a lot and sometimes he makes good contributions, but Matty Smith was basically a passenger tonight. He made one good kick in the first half, but after that was anonymous for most of the game. The only time he does get noticed is throwing awful passes that kill our attacking moves. Williams was the best player on the field tonight but he's being asked to do it all himself. Smith was nowhere to be seen and added absolutely nothing when we needed a top player to stand up and be counted.

Our pack isn't the biggest, but I thought they did okay tonight against arguably the best pack in the league. I know ours is more of a collective of converted back row forwards playing prop and a converted centre at second row but they sort of held it together.

Tomkins just looks out of sorts. There's no real pace to his game and when he's not fully fit he comes up with errors. The worry is that despite injury he's not being rested, which generally means the injury isn't going to get better and he's being nursed through to the end of the season. If we had more support from our other halfback we might be able to get by with a half fit fullback, but currently it's just taking too much out of an already ineffective attack.

And, as much as I like Sam Powell, he doesn't quite have the quality at hooker to match the likes of Houghton, Clark and even Roby now that he's regaining form. It's not his fault and he'll improve if he remains at hooker over the next few years, but it's yet another position where our opponents have the edge.
I think that is a fair summary, we have players who are struggling like Sam but have to continually to put their hands up. If Wane, Rads and IFL cannot see the folly of playing Smith then we are doomed!

I feel for SW to an extent as he hasn't got enough fit players to pick from but I also think he has a bloody minded philosophy that players will play themselves into form. If you're in bad form you need time good coaching to get through it, not sure SW 'gets' that.
If you are playing badly you stick to the basics. Defensively we are performing well but don't have the skills to put points on a team. Changes have to be made because we are simply not doing the business.

All round Sam had a decent game but he is paid sily money to win games and for that you expect the young fullback that destroyed Wire with a chip and chase from his own 20, the scoots breaking from dummy half. I just hope he can find his zip and magic for 2017.
Maybe it is time for him to play with his head rather than his legs. You cannot beat pace in rugby league, but that pace is not always about sprinting! Sam has a great rugby brain and I think that we would be better advised for him to partner Williams.

Don't you dare have the audacity to call the support

It's 97 miles from my house to Doncaster on a Friday night. Two of the people who were with me had booked a day off work to go to this game as did many others or had tonfinishmwork early.

It's also school holidays now so lots of families in the Wigan area are on holiday.

We aren't all armchair supporters!! Some did make an effort to get there!!

As Wandering Warrior asked you twice! "Were you there"??

If not STFU ????????????
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

The support is not, and never has been, the problem! Effort is not the problem! The players are not the problem, even though some are not good enough! Management and coaching is the problem. I relented last night and went to the game, I applauded the players for their effort but class wins matches and we don't have it!

I've just got back home and it's really depressing. I expected us to be beaten convincingly but, despite our problems, the game was there for the taking. Hull were the better team but we had them worried and they underperformed. The effort from our players was great as usual the fans made themselves heard. We just had no idea when attacking. The same old story. I hope another near miss doesn't hide our failings, we all know what they are.

Talk is cheap, the club need to sort it out we are bloody boring. I think watching paint dry would be on a par with the entertainment we serve up.

This was just the same old story, no lack of effort from the players but we just lack class in some areas.Smith and Powell totally outplayed by Sneyd and Houghton.Lockers is past his best sadly and Sarginson just not good enough.Wane needs to go and IL should recognise Wigan fans will not tolerate this for much longer.

You know the players won't lack effort that's a given but Christ how many times are we just going to keep passing it down the line and back again?

Useless kicks going nowhere that even now make little sense,it tells me the jig is up,the players have nothing to offer currently other than the same plays week in,week out.

A word about the support its was noisy that's for sure but have a dodgy ear and a couple drums banging isn't a good thing personally I just found a seat in a quieter part of the stance.
