I don't think it's that simple in the year before a world cup. Williams will want to impress Bennett. With the decent half back form around the league and the Aussies potentially putting their hand up for England, he won't want to miss out.ian.birchall wrote:If he really does need surgery then both George and the Club should have the good sense to say that he has to have any necessary surgery as soon as the Club have played their last game of the season.Lee481 wrote:Great. So he's looking at surgery after the internationals? That will be him unfit for the first third of the season no doubt?![]()

A bulging disc (or slipped /herniated/prolapsed-all the same)means that one of your discs which sits between your vertebrae is pressing on your nerve-normally your sciatic nerve which runs down your leg.5miler wrote:When George was out earlier in the season the club said it was a trapped nerve that couldn't be treated and they were having to wait for it to sort itself. Now it's a bulging disc? Smoke and mirrors time. Could do with Wigan coming clean about it at the end of the season. Obviously not going to do so atm to avoid giving opponents useful info.
So-no smoke & mirrors-its all the same.If its doesn't clear up naturally (normally a question of time which professional athletes don't generally have)he'll more than likely have a microdiscetomy to correct it and the recovery time could be 3-4 months. He seems to have quite an upright running style and uses a lot of upper body movement independent of his lower half so I suspect he puts a fair amount of strain on his back.
Fingers crossed.

Re: George Williams
If the injury is as bad as reported on here the lad should have the operation now never mind after Wigan's season or England's. It's his future health at stake here not just his rugby career .

Re: George Williams
He had issues earlier in the season as I recall, but since returning to the first team he's played very well.
Does he need surgery now? Well, if we scanned the next 100 or so people to walk past the door we would find several with major bulging discs, but not necessarily in any pain. You don't want to operate without a real indication to do so. My point is a bulging disc per se isn't a reason for surgery.
But pain and disability are. We none of us know how much pain he's in, or how much he's impeded.
Nothing in the past or now suggests he's getting bad advice or inappropriate treatment. I do think the Wigan club looks after its players.
So I think it's watch this space.

He will be rested and possibly put on traction to alleviate a bulged disk in his back in the off season.

I've not watched him this time around, but didn't think he did much for London last time he was here.God wrote:What's wrong with Soward he's a decent player and a good kicker, two problems solved in one.
