Re: C C final venue
Was at the game 76k announced was a fantasy . Even if you take the Club Wembley 10k off the attendance 66k would still be a fantasy figure. We were in the upper tier on the half way line and it was empty .
Entertainment was poor and the lack of neutral club shirts was very obvious . Wembley just too big these days methinks .

Not too far back, many fans went to Wembley for the weekend, regardless of who got to the final. Can remember finals in which we sold far more tickets than our rivals but was out-cheered or booed more than the team we were playing.

Don't forget the holiday factor, kids off school. This didn't happen when it was played beginning of May.

The RFL will be tied to a contract, not sure how long for though. The area round Wembley is being developed with shops, restaurants, pubs, bars and hotels now in place. It is much better than it was 20/30 years ago.Whelley Warrior wrote:The new Wembley now is all about Football, Rugby Union and American Football and as people now find it more expensive to go to London and also now have alternative interests in life, the time has come to look for a venue with a less capacity, better facilities around the Stadium and more reasonable prices.
If however, the Final has to remain in London, than in my opinion, it should be moved to the Olympic Stadium with its soon to be 66,000 capacity where there are better facilities than what there is now around the built up area of Wembley.
The new Wembley may be a magnificent Stadium, but the area around it now leaves a lot to be desired.

Has the change of date of the final had any affect on crowds.
I always looked forward to the long weekend trip to London in the may bank holiday weekend.
I've not had the same enthusiasm since its moved to August Bank Holiday weekend.

Summer Rugby has killed it all off, another 5 years and RL will as well supported as Curling FFS
Re: C C final venue
Everything about rl attendance looks bad at pretty much every game. The 'problem' is that fans don't see going to games as a priority anymore, for numerous differing reasons. Then we blame it all on the RFL.

Re: C C final venue
The Challenge Cup needs a revamp ,maybe incorporate a 9s competition for the Super League clubs not in the final to play at Wembley the same weekend would possibly attract more fans and allow the top 4 from the championship as they'd be in the middle 8s
Re: C C final venue
Good shout . I would agree with that entirely . the traditional Wembley final where everyone went no matter who is there is dead and buried hence NO more full housesWhelley Warrior wrote:The simple truth is that the final no longer attracts supporters both from other clubs in our game and elsewhere like it use to do a few seasons ago due to the cost of going to London as pay for many has been dragged down to a level that other things are more important.
How many went from Wigan like they used to do a few seasons ago?
People now no longer have the money to spend on a Final, 200 miles away which does not involve their own club and where everything is so expensive like in London.
Perhaps the time has come to move the Final to Manchester like the Grand Final which has no trouble in attracting supporters of other clubs and is now getting attendances as good if not better than Wembley.
Manchester has enough Hotels, Attractions and Entertainment for people to have weekend for the Final and far cheaper than rip off London.
Wigan is and always will be a town of Cherry & White
Re: C C final venue
Certaibly neutral supporters seem to have declined rapidly and significantly. I do not believe Wembley is a problem but rather RL fansare not embracing events for umpteen reasons.
