GB AT JJB

Post by Row A Exile »

Just a quick question.
As I understand, Row A has now / is in the process of being removed from the East Stand. Has anyone told the RFL ticket office, who I beleive have already taken orders for seats in the row that no longer exists (for the GB game). If this is the case, when will these people find out (or will it be on the day)? Anyone out there ordered their tickets for this location?

Below copied from email received from club:

I think it is important to establish it is not a case that you are not being allowed to sit on Row A. The reason you cannot renew the same seat is because Row A has been removed due to work which is being undertaken after Wigan Athletic's move into the Premiership. Wigan Warriors have no control over this, in fact we were only informed about the work two weeks ago.

No, it's not the fault of Wigan Athletic, nor Manchester United at Old Trafford. The use of row A for advertising is a Premiership requirement, I'm guessing something to do with the deal with Sky TV since commercial organisations will be paying lots of money for significant numbers of adverts at pitch level or just above pitch level.

How much advertising do they want? Aren't the advertising boards around the edge engough?

Obviously not!

However that is drifting off-topic.

The question still remains, have seats been sold for the tri-nations in row a?

If so and they aren't available RL is going to look very very stupid in the media despite it being out of their control and the fact they have only been informed (via Wigan RL I assume) at such short notices.

If there is a problem the RFL should sue the Premier League!

no i aint blaming wigan athletic im saying we should never have ground shared with them in the first [lace and i have alwayys said that but i dont want to get in the same old arguement of we should of done that and we shouldnt of done this in my opinion we should of gone to another ground built a ground for us seperate as much as i like the jjb its not a patch on grounds for tradition as saints and leeds
Yeah, but that's the ideal world where there is no such thing as money and everyone gets what they want not the real world.

Whilst I agree with what you're saying about traditional grounds Saints is a dump and Headingley only just improving, still a lot of people (like Angela Powers family) do not like it!

yeah it may be a dump but its a good rugby ground traditional rugby ground knowsley road as the best atmosphere at rugby matches just because it is a such a small ground and everybody is tighty packed in which makes it better
Good atmosphere's a bit subjective, it means different things to different people. Is it the ground, or is the fact that we only go there to play our arch-enemy? Wigan vs Satins should have a good atmosphere no matter where the game takes place.

As for KR, as a fairly recent convert to the game, I personally think the place is rubbish. Poor (ie non-existent) parking; bad visibility at the away end trying to dodge roof supports, camera stages, steps that aren't really very staggered etc, very poor for small people who can't see over the top of others (but with everyone squashed in, where else can we go to?); poor facilities (food, toilets etc); dodgy PA system (except when that ****** Neil Holding is spouting off at half-time... Same goes for Sheadingley, the Odsal Hole, and, yes, Central Park as well. In terms of enjoyable place to visit, the JJB offers a lot more than our beloved old ground. The fact that everyone can be close together is good, but there are plenty of people at games who I wouldn't want to be too close to! (and I'm sure some people would say the same about me!).

Sometimes people, particularly those of us from outside the rugby league towns who have come into the game from outside, want a bit more than a field with 4 tin barns for everyone to stand in around the outside. They're ok to visit as away grounds, but even the short amount of time I spent going to CP was enough for me, and, not being the tallest person, there were plenty of games where I spent half the time watching the back of someone else's head, or trying to stay upright because of people constantly pushing past to go backwards and forwards to the bar or toilets. I'd quite happily keep my comfy, well-located seat in the JJB rather than going back to stand under a load of people's armpits at Central Park.

were do u come from then? u must be loyal if u come from somewhere and u have to travel a long way to get to a home match. Its not just that i like groinds like salford and odsal odsal to me is a beltin ground
Originally from Lancaster, home to the mighty, erm Vale of Lune rugby union club and some division 23 soccer team, and now living and working in Manchester, home of a couple of smalltown soccer clubs that get written about in the papers once in a while. Neither place has a proper rugby league team (and I don't count Salford as that's a different city to Manchester, and the Heysham Atoms seem to be in freefall down the North West Counties League!).

For those of us who have to travel to games rather than being able to walk, the little things like carparks become a bit more important to the enjoyment of going to a game. There've been the odd handful of games at different grounds I've missed in the past through not being able to find somewhere to park (including one game at CP!).

Nice idea, if I could escape from work early enough. Manchester rush-hour traffic isn't fun...

Talk about going off topic!

This thrread was about row A availability in the tri nations and now seem to about where people live and atmospphre at grounds.

The other active thread aboit ins and outs seems to now be about watching games in pubs!

Does anyone have any idea if there is a problem for the tri-nations games with the seating?
