Irrespective of who wears the title "Captain" he has to make the right decisions at the right time.
The man who's role in the team has made him the defacto captain in the absence of Lockers is Matty Smith.
When there's been no Sam T, Williams, Lockers, or MM Smith has been doing the organising.
We need leaders out there and last night Sam was the only leader.
It didn't go well for him and I do hope he will learn from the experience.
Even after last night, should Lockers retire soon I think Sam will be the next Wigan captain.

And?butt monkey wrote:Your glowing praise for one of the worst half backs to have ever played for Wigan amazes me. No pace, cannot tackle, cannot pass both sides and you (and others) create a myth that he has an outstanding kicking game. Wrong! He simply does what other mediocre players do and kick and hope - usually hitting an opponents legs. As for goal kicking - again rubbish, this guy was bought for £35k and that is exactly the quality we paid forfozzieskem wrote:The future without Smith was laid bare last night,it's a horrifying vision too, perhaps now people will start to understand what he brings to the side .
I will guarantee you this that Wayne Bennett will see through his lack of ability and not select him for the test series
If stating the obvious about last night is considered glowing praise then name a replacement,a ready made one Wigan can sign please im eager to hear, your points about kicking are valid,Williams does this as well is he mediocre?
Smith's performance versus NZ last winter will,if Bennetts the coach i think he is will be analised and your right discarded for a couple of aussies of dubious english decent (a discussion for another day but an avenue he is right to persue).
He is not a world beater, nor is Williams but he alone takes the stick it is utterly pathetic as most will not give an answer to who can replace him and of course forget how many games he actually won for Wigan this season.

Would be a good call in my book. But I assumed (possibly wrongly) that Sam was being groomed for the job.

Out of interest though, who do you think is captain material?
ST has been a petulant child at times this season.
Do hope he doesn't play for England and gets his head and game sorted in the close season?

Lockers won't hang his boots up but I do think that we should go back to the leadership team. Let's not forget it was Wane that changed a winning formula.cherry.pie wrote:Didn't think of that. Could be a good shout.TrueBlueWarrior wrote:TL as captain till someone else steps up?
Tomkins, Farrell, Bateman, Leuluai and McIlorum would probably be considered the leaders in the team if O'Loughlin were to hang up his boots at the end of the year.
