Which defensive plays?yokozuna wrote:Tomkins made some massive errors, and then pulled out some great defensive plays. He needs a break and a pre-season to get ready for next year - but we might need some of his magic before the end of the season if we're going to pull the rabbit out of the hat.
Forecast v Hull ?

Re: Forecast v Hull ?
I disagree PM, I think his line defence has been great and saved a number of tries these last few weeks, where we've offered very little in attack so taken a hammering in our 20. He's also been a lot safer under those bombs; after all he needs to be, as just about every team has a better kicking game than us.
In general, his entire defensive game is much stronger since his time in the NRL. Think he's a bit stronger too, which helps. Agree though, not the same player on the attacking side of things but hopefully over the close season, this will markedly improve and approach something like he was. Still a huge influence with his presence in the opposition 20 and does create space for others.
Not a write off at all.

Would you pay a marquee salary for the player you are describing?Nezza Faz wrote:I disagree PM, I think his line defence has been great and saved a number of tries these last few weeks, where we've offered very little in attack so taken a hammering in our 20. This season, probably not. You can see from his movement and him favouring his other leg that he's struggling with his knee. Not sure of the mechanics of his injury, so can't predict his future on that score. Next season will determine his "marquee" status but as now happy for him to be our FB.

Re: Forecast v Hull ?
He is 70% fit.
He is now pretending he should be selected for England when he shouldn't BUT more importantly when he owes it to Wigan and Wigan fans to put this club and our fans first to make up for the wage he has stole this season. He needs a full pre season and he is not going to get that without full rest and a genuine proper pre season. I have no idea if Sam will ever be the player that left WIgan but hwe owes it to this club and our fans to do everything possible to find out if he can. Unless, Sam can fully recover he is not a marquee plater in deed other than his salary. It is a disgrace on Sam T's part that he has not made himself unavailable for international selection.

Tomkins was hopeless with those two high bombs tonight letting them bounce which could have cost us points on the scoreboard.
I feel Shaul would have caught those with ease, and in general is far better than Tomkins is on current form.
His presence in the last 20m has deteriorated drastically on his previous form prior to leaving to NRL, and at a guess he's a good 7 to 10yds slower than he once was.
I'm not using his injury as an excuse as he's on a damm good marquee player salary dishing displays out like tonight.
Not good enough based on tonight's showing.
Re: Forecast v Hull ?
Shaul outplayed Tomkins tonight and IMO it was not one of his better games for Hull. Shaul looks the England full back unless Radford is seen as a different option.

Re: Forecast v Hull ?
I said it would be close pre match.
We tackled brilliantly. Are attack was the usual tripe.
If we had lost a lot of people on here would be highlighting how bad our attack was( myself included)
We scored three individual tries
I thought sarge and tierney were ordinary( to be fair they never had an overlap bar once).
Bateman and faz played good with Bateman saving two defo tries.
Tautai was my mom

IF YOU STRIKE ME DOWN I WILL BECOME MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE

One spiralled all over the place and changed its trajectory in the air. And he wasn't in the best position to take it where it eventually landed, so must have made a judgement call to allow it to bounce into a relatively safe on-field area.
I've seen all this season on Premier TV, top NRL fb's make exactly the same decision, and at the same time top NRL fb's make cock-ups trying to latch onto the kick.
Shaull is playing with tons of confidence, helped by his team efforts, something Sam's not had that luxury off his own team mates.
