I wouldn't rush him one bit, give him every chance to get back to the Sam that we hoped he would be on his return from NZ!!

Wane reveals time-frame for Tomkins comeback

Shaun Wane has revealed a possible recovery time-frame for Sam Tomkins.

The coach hopes to have the former Man of Steel back on board early in the new campaign. The full-back is recovering from foot surgery which ruled him out of Wigan’s Grand Final assault and England’s Four Nations campaign.

“March-April... but it’s still not a definite time-frame,” he said, when asked about Tomkins’ likely return to action. “We’ll see how he is when he starts running, we’ll know more then.

“He’s had a plate in there and that has to come out, and so there are some things that could dictate when he’s back. But he’s training really well and he’ll be back as soon as possible.”

Fans had already been told his injury would eat into 2017 – which prompted the signing of French livewire Morgan Escare. But until now, it was unclear how long of the campaign he will be sidelined.

The news will be welcomed, given Tomkins’ comeback campaign was delayed by a knee injury.

I'm sure I posted this already this morning??
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

When he was interviewed during the 4 Nations Final he said he'd miss the first month of the season so hopefully will be back March rather than April.

Make or break this year for him. I hope I'm wrong but this is looking like a bet going belly up!!

I think you have a point most if not all were happy to get him back and give him the time to get fit again but it's a case of here we go again with him,he's going to have to start to repay faith shown in him at some point.

Can he do it?

We are in a fingers crossed situation here and I very much doubt that his former glories will be achieved. If I was Escare I would spend my time practising goal kicking because that would put serious pressure on ST.

I hope he can. I suspect he cannot.

Sam will need to adjust his game because the lightening speed he once had will not return. He has still got the vision and passing skills so I would expect that he will move back into the halves eventually. One thing in Sam's favour is his desire to succeed, it is on a par with the greats such as Giz and Hanley.

My ideal situation would be for Escare to shine at 1 - and he is brilliant on his day - so that we play Sam at 7. His skill, short kicking game, drive and vision are still there. Let someone else do the running for him.
