Higham signs 3 year deal with Warriors

Post by buddyboy »

:conf:
Terry Newton has signed a 4 year deal with Bradford and Higham comes to Wigan on 3 year deal.

This is bad news in my opinion. That is not to say Higham is bad rugby player because he is, but Newton is with Cunningham the best two hookers in the game.

I am seriously beginning to wonder now is next season will bring a big improvement. Given that we will have upwards of 6/7/8 new players in the first team, it will require a minor miracle for them all to gell at once.

We still need a QUALITY world class player to replace Farrell.

We got fletcher whos an ex aussie international. I know hes old but he was once 1 of the best.

Im still gutted and wiping away the tears! We must have created a huge gap in the cap there as the class is quite a difference. We need a world class 6 foe next year. Benji Marshall must be a Kolpak :D (wishful thinking)

How stupid can wigan be for getting rid of terry and getting Mick higham. But hay, it is done. We will just have to wait and find out if he will be good, when he plays for us.

I've said many times that I rate Higham very highly. He is very very quick, and is very clever with the ball, in my eyes he isnt a bad signing at all.

My theory is that Newton wasnt happy at the club at all, and like may other seasoned players at the club he hasnt been for a few seasons now, I dont think he had any intention of signing a new contract after his expired at the end of next season. So I think the club made the decision to get rid of him considering the fact he cant play for the first 3rd of the season, why should the club stay loyal to a player who got what turned about to be an 11 or 12 match ban, a player who will miss the 1st nine matches of the season and a player who has no intention of re-signing with us. I reckon they looked at all that and thought its best to let him go and bring in a replacement.
Regardless of whether Higham is better or worse isnt the point here I dont think, the point is we had to make a decsion on him based on what I just mentioned, and once you look at the bigger picture they must have felt that releasing him was the best thing to do, and if he wasnt willing to sign a new deal, it isnt worth being without a player for 3 months who will then leave at the end of the season anyway.

I think only time will tell if the signing of Mikey Higham is to be a good one.

I for one don't think the loss of Newton is that much of a problem. He was poor last season - and is more of a liability than anything else.

Who starts at hooker next season though - I don't know. I would of thought Godwin with Higham off the bench????

Anyway I have heard that we can expect two more signings after the Tri-Nations. That will make 8 in total - is this too much of a gamble???

All true Chris but over a season driving a team forward IMO Terry is the better player but this unpopular decision with us fans may be better for the club only time will tell

An awful swap :( The only good thing I can think is that Higham is not banned. In a good team Terry is an awesome player, he's the best support player in his position, good near the line and great at finding runners near the line. Higham, Urghhhh. I rate Godwin higher and only hope McClorrum comes through fast. What crappy news

Sounds a fair summation Chris. It also shows that Wigan are taking next year seriously and we're looking for some silverware!

Read my earlier post and tell me what you think, this comes down to more than playing ability, or whether Newton is better than Higham. Just saying Newton is better than Higham doesnt really cover why this move has happened. It goes alot deeper than that and I tried to explain why I think this move came about.
