Well needless to say I'm gutted, but I am bias lol so fair enough. :conf: Personally though I think we've just made Bradford an even better team. Yep Terry's temper was really awful but still, he had something about him and I would have him any day over Higham.

I do trust Millward's judgement but I'll reserve judgement on Higham until I've seen him play. I would rather see Godwin play at #9 but what do I know. I'm no Milly lol!

I feel Wigan have got one over the saints in this deal. Remember the rumours that Higham could go to anyone but Wigan? Well i think this was Millwards way around it, knowing Brian wanted Newton. Well done Wigan. If Terry wanted to go then why not, Getting Higham must be a real kick in the teeth for the board at Saints.... Good luck Terry, with Price gone it will be easier to watch the Bulls from now on. Roll on next season... [/quote]

You asked how stupid WIgan were to let Newton go. Wigan ain't stupid at all, because Higham will not repeatedly get himself into trouble with referees for persistan high tackling, nor will he perform any dirty antics like Newton did on Long a couple of months ago.

The trouble is that Newton gives away FAR too many penalties and Higham is younger and smarter.

This is absolutly terrible news. Higham is a very very good player no doubting that but Newton is world class and im seriously doubting everything now after high hopes. It was a wierd transfer though werent it. Bradford signed Higham for 70,000 then IMMEDIATLY swapped him for newton to us
We wanted Higham and Saints would never sell him to us, Bradford wanted Newton so we said if we can have Higham Newton is yours so Bradford bought him purely to sell to us in order to get Newton. Clever in away, i really liked Terry, but there was always the thought that everytime he tackled that it was a potential liability.

I think it will be interesting to wait and see, does anyone think we have saved wages money? Will Higham be on less than Terry?

I do think id rather have Godwin as starting hooker i do like his play alot

Mmmm..I love Newtons committment and on his day he's as good as anyone but "world class"?World class players are consistently good and don't have suspect temperemants and In my opinion Terry falls short on both counts.
I agree with the points made about the final year of his contract and his ban but I also suspect he doesn't fit Millies type of team which puts a lot of emphasis on speed of play, particularly at the play the ball and Higham is more of his type of player.
On balance I think inevitable and I'm prepared to give the coach the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Thats rubbish world class players have off games bad games!
Higham on top of his game is good Newton on top of his is world class. Highams tempremant isnt that bad as he never plays so it wont be bad! Like it was posted before weve just signed another injury prone player for a world class plyer typical.

Also the comment about the backroom staff doing this for a living so they are to be trusted makes me laugh as we have just been done by the 2 most succesful superleague teams of the decade.

Well played Wigan......

Of course they do but I was referring to consistency both over a season & over 80 minutes and Newton is not world class-very few players are and to suggest he is of that calibre is ,to use your expression "rubbish".He's a good, sometimes great player with flaws.
So asserting that Higham never plays and so Newtons temperament is therfore acceptable is totally illogical -getting banned for half a season is ok and a natural result of playing rl then!

I've said many times that I rate Higham very highly. He is very very quick, and is very clever with the ball, in my eyes he isnt a bad signing at all.

My theory is that Newton wasnt happy at the club at all, and like may other seasoned players at the club he hasnt been for a few seasons now, I dont think he had any intention of signing a new contract after his expired at the end of next season. So I think the club made the decision to get rid of him considering the fact he cant play for the first 3rd of the season, why should the club stay loyal to a player who got what turned about to be an 11 or 12 match ban, a player who will miss the 1st nine matches of the season and a player who has no intention of re-signing with us. I reckon they looked at all that and thought its best to let him go and bring in a replacement.
Regardless of whether Higham is better or worse isnt the point here I dont think, the point is we had to make a decsion on him based on what I just mentioned, and once you look at the bigger picture they must have felt that releasing him was the best thing to do, and if he wasnt willing to sign a new deal, it isnt worth being without a player for 3 months who will then leave at the end of the season anyway.
Spot on Chris. Higham is a quality player has different qualities to Terry. ore agile quicker off the mark and exceptional distributor of the ball. He will help Moran.

as you said Newton might not have been happy. Seems that there is some sort of a problem in the club and some players need a fresh start.
