I'd be interested to know if anybody is going or knows someone that is?
I'm off to Mexico in March for a fortnight so can't and won't take Lenegan's whim trip at two grand a shot!
It's a long way back from there after a loss!?

Last time I looked art this thread there were a few replies, including at least which appeared to answer the question and they appear to have vanished!

Seriously cannot understand people who would either go or watch this shower of sh*** team.....

Having put up with the last 3 seasons I'm now cancelling my Sky Sports subscription as at the end of the day, fan or not, I'm not paying to watch a team of poorly coached players by a dumb ass coach when nothing ever changes!

I had to be in Sydney the week before last for family reasons, and I was amazed how many people mentioned Wigan's game over there. It has been very well publicised and very well received. It is worth bearing in mind that Sydney is much bigger than Manchester, Liverpool, Hull, Bradford and Leeds combined, and that they live their rugby league. Wigan have a great reputation down there - I have no doubt that this will draw a huge crowd, possibly our biggest home gate of the season. It is also worth bearing in mind that some Sky games get bigger viewing figure in Sydney (ignoring the rest of Oz) than in the U.K. As far as tapping into a receptive market, it makes perfect sense. Plus, for anyone uncertain about going, Sydney is a beautiful city with some of the most gorgeous beaches you will ever find (ignore Bondi and Manly and head to Bronte or Balmoral instead).

Anyone who is jaded about our game and worries for its future, should spend a few days over there to cheer them up (only if money is not a problem of course - any which way you look at it, it is an expensive trip).

No it's not. A quick Google of populations will tell you otherwise. Sydney's population is just over 4m, Greater Manchester and the Leeds/Bradford "urbanization zone", the two conurbations that include most of the UK's RL heartlands, have a combined population of about 4.8m. Receptive market for what exactly? You are trying to enter a market the Sydney clubs are competing for. It's not a new market, but selling coal to Newcastle. It's 12,000 miles away. I can see no reason for any Sydney based business to sponsor Wigan over and above one of their local sides. Sydney.com (the NSW tourist board) who are sponsoring the trip are just paying for the trip. You aren't going to sell any new season tickets.

I think the market IL is trying to tap into is the one in Wigan. The club is looking to make money off the trip itself by selling packages. If it gets anything long term out of it I'd be amazed.

I wonder how many people would have signed up for the trip had Wigan been playing well but have decided not to because they don't want to travel all that way to watch the dross being served up?

Maybe IL will think about that before he decides to make no changes re the coaching at Wigan.

Bondi beach on New Years day is a sight to behold I can tell you but yes there are plenty of great places to visit in the surrounding area. You can get a train out to the Blue Mountains for a complete change of scenery for example.

For many though to consider this trip it will have to be a family holiday and for that if you have kids in school/college or work in education it's the wrong time of year.
