No reason given, at least not that I heard. The cash would obviously be re-invested in the Club.

Mr Lenegan made up the £600,000 loss out of his own pocket. But he is optimistic that next year will see a profit.

Not as such but (and it’s clear to me at least IL has people reading here,Facebook,Twitter etc) he said this was not a time for sackings as Wane essentially has done what IL has asked for,win trophies no matter what.

So no not the dreaded vote of confidence but an absolute belief Wane is the right man for the job and as such IL,Rads and Wane have/are conducting an in-depth review of what went wrong this season and no IL isn’t happy either with those last two games in particular,mentioned that performances aren’t what they were as well,do he’s not sticking his head in the sand.

May as well be if he doesn't sack Wane.

So if you were expecting Wane to go well he isn’t But did anyone really expect him to go?

I didn't expect him to sack him at the end of season do. No sacking next week? Then we need not only a new coach but a chairman with some balls.

IL acknowledged that our style of play has come under fire and attempted to take the blame away from SW by saying that he was under an instruction to win at all costs.

I struggle to accept this and my opinion is that this was IL's way of taking the heat off SW.

He gave the impression that things may change next season but I don't see how this can happen without new blood amongst the coaching staff if SW is to stay, which it looks as though he will be doing.

It was interesting to hear IL's comments on the Sky viewing figures. If a game doesn't make it onto the Main Event channel the viewing figures reduce by 2/3 with the number of people watching around the 60,000 mark. That is very worrying for our sport and proves once again that the RFL are a shambles. We have the best product out there and they are responsible for agreeing an absolute dog of a TV deal.

If you think the last TV deal was bad wait for the next one,if indeed sky even offer one that is not deemed derisory which i suspect will be the case,the fact asIL said last night the sport isnt on its own channel is worrying at the rate things are going tiddlewinks will get more viewers.

So what to do,well for me its easy TV is entertainment so the sport has to entertain to keep on as we have been doing will spell the end of our sport sooner rather than later,those games last weekend have to become the norm not the exception,we have to drive standards up not the dreary dross we've been seeing over the last few years across the sport.

Wigan have to lead the way,no let me say it correctly Wigan have to catch up and develop a style of play the blends a win at all costs style ofplay with rugby that people will pay to watch.

Crowds are down,viewers are down,carry on in the same vein and the sport will wither and die,at least try and up the entertainment value then maybe the sport has a chance.

Trouble is can we really say this anymore?

I used to be a massive advocate of rugby league and would tell whoever i could to watch it because of how much better it is than "yawnion" and football and all other sports, Its fast intense and brutal.

Over the last 3-4 years we have seen the standard drop dramatically to this season when not just Wigan rugby in general IMO has been at its lowest ever ebb. There have been 2 good games i can recall this season which have been last weeks semi's and thats about it. Castelford have been great to watch but the games themselves have been without intensity or drama.

The season has become an absolute sham the fact we nearly made it to the semi's despite going on our longest winless streak in 100 years shows how dire the standard is right now.

With the season meaning nothing, the games have no intensity and no edge. This means the crowds dwindle, the dwindling crowds mean on TV the game looks like a joke, that turns off the TV fans too.

Other sports have got better, union are catching us in terms of athleticism and skill and with their excellent international setup are starting to produce games that are as good if not better in some circumstances to watch than league.

All fair points.

I still feel we have much better product that Union but their PR/marketing is 1 million % better than ours.

I just hope that super league teams take a leaf out of the Castleford book next season and play a more expansive style. It's worked well for Cas and they won the league leaders shield by a landslide. Hopefully the other teams will now attempt to do the same.

Whether this is possible within the current salary cap constraints is a different matter. I read the other day that if the salary cap had kept pace with inflation it would now be £3.2m!

Thats the issue isn't it the game just isn't moving with the times financially or by any other means. The saving grace at the moment is that it doesn't seem to have effected uptake in the game, youngsters still seem to be pursuing a career in rugby league. That can only last so long though especially with the injuries we seem to see nowadays the pay needs to come up but for that to happen a lot of other things need to change.

Personally i would of let the good doctor roll the dice and see what happened. At the moment rugby league feels like all the teams are running a marathon in a pack, some are running slower than they can others are running at a higher pace than they are comfortable with. Trouble is no one wants to push it forward so we are all just sat in this pack overall doing the sport an injustice.
