I remarked, er, elsewhere, that Burgess looked to have a mare in defence despite his hat-trick, and many said that it was Gildart more to blame. So I took note when I watched the game back on Wigan TV. As the pieman says, they were both rushing out of defence a lot. Ben Barba will have a field days with that, he will kick in behind them, etc etc. And probably so will Cas. Carry on like this and we will get punished by the better sides.
Conversely, I thought Bateman had a good game at centre, and looked very solid.
And what is it with Willie Isa? Is it just me, or does he look at a hell of a lot more mobile this season? Thought he was very good against Wakey.
Wakey Game
Re: Wakey Game
Plus one terrific saving tackle on the touchline from George Williams after Burgess had been left stranded again.the pieman wrote: I thought we were either lucky or scrambled very well to prevent any further tries there on Sunday.
Re: Wakey Game
3-post ment, as they say!
Our kicking game. Seems to me the deficiencies in our kicking game are largely down to Williams, anything other than the short-range grubber seems rubbish from him. Longer kicking game from both Sams is not too bad, IMO. But if GW wants to be a half who can run a game, he needs to work on an all-round kicking game. He is not a teenager any more. And while he lacks that, he will never be the 'main man' in our attack.
It will be interesting to see, further on down the line, if Woods and Shorrocks get any game time, and how they go.
