Atmosphere at the JJB

Post by MarkWestStand »

I know we attempted to have a carnival atmosphere at the end of last season, any ideas what we can do for next years home games

Lots of new players in, some crowd favourite sadly departed. It would be good to start as we mean to go on. getting behind the team, showing our support and making a trip to the JJB for away teams something to fear. Lets face it at times we are out shouted by the away fans.

Any ideas on setting the tone for the new era? I think the atmosphere set by the tri nations was good can it be built on?

Are we still mainly Friday nights?

Love to see a retro week here like they have in the NRL. It's a very good marketing / merchandising ploy too

First of all don't be too worried about being outshouted by the away fans at the JJB, it happens at all grounds simpley because the away support is concentrated in one area. In our case one stand.
The answer to getting it louder is more people. We are scattered about in three stands. It would be ideal if we could fill our end every week.
I would also like to see a return to Sunday afternoon kick offs, but it ain't gonna happen sadly.

Friday night traffic is a nightmare in wigan. But the atmosphere under floodlights is much better than sunday afternoons. The trouble is that the hardcore of support travel to home and away games.therefore tend to be loud at away matches.Wigan fans are far louder at away matches than the jjb
form is temporary class is permenant

Due to the shift patterns I work, the only away games I can go to are on Saturnday and Sunday.
I would like to go to all of them but Friday night football makes that impossible.
That's why I'm glad Cas are back. They are one of the few left who play on Sundays.

Know how u feel Fishpot i had to work 3 Fridays a month for the last 18 months now ive stopped them. Just hoping we get a good start as that will help the atmosphere no end.

Theme nights are a great idea.

Friday night games leave the rest of the weekend free but i still prefer Sunday afternoon games.

The atmosphere at rugby matches is bad because most people in the east stand and about 50+ and don't sing at all.

The atmosphere at Latics games is better because there are more people and most of the people in the east stand are younger

I have been to many RL games at the JJB where the atmosphere has been electric. It tends to be when there is a good crowd on and most importantly action on the pitch makes it so.

It isn't a good atmosphere when the team is playing poorly or conversely if the game is a walkover. The fans react to the game and don't sing for the sake of it. If the game is poised on a knife edge the fans are too busy watching the action to sing and that tension in itself makes for a good atmosphere.

IMO Wigan fans make most noise when we are defending like hell on our own line. That being the case, I hope we are all quiet next year!!
