I am not sure I agree with the blanket criticism, and am not sure that those angry enough to post angrily on here represent everyone. There are those who are criticising in advance that the announcement is bound to be rubbish, and are already angry. That seems to me to be anger for anger's sake. I am pleased that the club is going to be saying something about the future, as there have been many calls - including from many who now appear angriest - for the club to be more open. Those getting angry because the club are "crying wolf" or should not even be making an announcement seem to me to be getting angry for the sake of it.

Assuming the local press knows something about the club, they seem pretty confident that we have signed 2 players (who will both be upgrades on the heavily criticised players whose places they will be taking, and neither of them are from Championship clubs), and we are trying to sign Hastings - who is an upgrade on Williams. Now, if that's the announcement then that would be really good news.

Alongside this, Smithies is every inch a star in the making, and it is testimony to the money IL spends on talent spotting, junior development and recruitment that he is at the club. Signing him to a long term contract would genuinely be good news.


There is nothing to stop people assuming that the announcements will be rubbish, but it seems odd to treat that as fact and get angry about them in advance.
