Possibly. Something should be done anyway. The stereotypical view of a teenager now is that which you stated - youth yob culture. Not all of us though y'know!

Far from it Likely Lad, plenty of decent young people but the authorities and possibly society have take a long time to wake up to the problem of large groups congregating within areas of towns and cities.

from an outsiders point of view i find wigan an excellent town to stay in and walk trough at night. i,ve walked through the town between 11 and 12 o,clock many a friday night and have never had a bad word said to me . i,ve also drank in a few different bars and never had any bother.where as in belfast it,s a completely different story

Wigan tends to have yob groups confined to their locality. Hindley has one such group, Ince has one, possibly 2 groups. One of the Ince groups being responsible for the Scholes Precinct Murder. Standish has a problem group now. I believe Wigan park is home to hordes of youths but I haven't been through it in a while.

All the stewards have to do is turn up mob handed - call over said ringleader and ask him what he thinks he is doing - if he apolgises warn him he will be ejected if he doesn't wind his neck in, if he tries to be clever then remove him and ban him for the season.

I'm speaking from experience - I'm a night club doorman at weekends, so I am used to dealing with gangs of drunken aggressive men not teenagers. One thing is for sure - if they are not brought into line then they will get progressively worse.

The club has a duty to provide a safe environment for families to view the game - they are quick enough to jump on smoking - surely drunken half wits spoiling for a fight are a danger to people's health?

At the end of the day; as soon as they start being racist they are breaking the law - and the police will act on that. Stevo's Shrink - when you write to the club remind of this - if the stewards won't do something about it then the club either needs to bring in a decent security firm to police these idiots or else stump up the cash to have the GMP there. Because sooner or later someone will get hurt.

Never heard any racism penhead, never have at rugby but I think what people are referring to is the "going home to beat me wife" song. To be honest I've heard worse sung to wiganers at away grounds and I dont think this can actually be heard on telly. Its only the lancashire la la la that can ever be heard, probably because people dont know all the words!

I think general swearing was what people were complaining about but this hasnt just become a problem this season. It's always been there at rugby whether people want to admit it or not. I used to stand infront of a man at central park that would cover my ears whenever he swore, so i basically had my ears covered the whole match. It's no worse now than it was then, it's just that it's the younger, bigger groups that can't accept that with it being an all seater stadium younger kids and their families can't 'just move' to avoid the language.

Most stewards are part time and have absolutely no intention of getting involved in anything that remotely resembles trouble. It's easier to boss around kids and people in wheelchairs than get amongst of drunken teenagers intent on trouble.

Unfortunately if they are not prepared to do this then they would be better of not being there at all. The JJB should employ the equivalent of doormen to deal with such idiots.

I've never had a very high opinion of stewards - they are usually employed by an agency and are either cowardly jobsworths or students trying to earn a few quid.

My brother worked at the Gumball rally event in London last year - they had dozens of stewards; all of which disappeared as soon as the event supervisor went home - about an hour after it started. Such people are refered to in the security industry as "jacket fillers" - they exist purely to make up the numbers and serve no real purpose.

Problems like those that have been mentioned in this thread leave the club in a bad light and cause people to stay away - it's up to the club to address these matters.

Like I said earlier - if they won't replace the stewards with something more effective then perhaps they should look at the GMP having a more visible presence
