Good luck Latics

Post by im_a_cuckoo »

I'm surprised that no-one on this site is wishing the Latics all the best in the Carling Cup Final on Sunday. At long last the townsfolk of Wigan have something to shout about, with 27,000 going down for the match. Their achievements this season are nothing short of phenomenal: after years of getting stick, their crowds are averaging over 20,000 and the match on Sunday will be watched by a combined worldwde audience of 250 milion. That's even bigger than the Grand Final.

I'll be there on Sunday bravely clutching my prawn sandwich and hoping that our local team turns over Man U. I'll also be hoping for :-
A) At least some excitement on the pitch.
B) Ferguson's purple nose to finally fall off.
C) Some Pro Plus tablets.

It'll be a bit sad actually. Could be my last trip to Cardiff if the North London White Elephant ever gets finished....

im sick of none rugby league related topics on this board. the latics are in the final, big whoop who cares. you never see any latics fans coming on here saying good luck in the new eyar or good luck in such and such a cup, it never happens. me being a united fan i hope the latics get stuffed and hopefully it will bring their big egos back down to earth. cmon united 4-0 again!!!!

I think you will find the average crowd so far this season is 17,408, if you wish to find out how to calculate an average I recommend “Everyday Math for Dummies “ because A. your obviously crap at maths and B. you’re a dummy.
Having said that I do hope Latics put up a good show but hope in future you stick to your own web site.

Why should you be surprised, this is a rugby league site not a wendyball site? There's quite a few on here who aren't from Wigan in any case so have no loyalty to other sports in the town. In terms of global spectators, I'm not really sure if the Gassy Lager Cup final is really as big as you say, compared to the FA Cup, but if the people of Kathmandu have got nothing better to watch then that's up to them. The people of Wigan have had plenty to cheer about from our team over the years, but we're really not in competition with the Latics for anything. Our crowds keep increasing, irrespective of the Latics successes, some people like one but not the other, some like both, but we'll never play against each other in anything so there's no point trying to compare your final to our Grand Final.

I went to the semi at Highbury and have to say I think that will be Latics' finest moment in the cup run, however, I'd support al-Qaeda against Manchester United, so am behind the lads all the way.

Now, enough football. What do you make of Mike Ruddock's dismissal?

The average league gate is over 20,000.
Anyway, what do crowds matter? If a Wigan team played in a marbles cup-final I'd want them to win it.

And WTF is math???
