The reallt worrying stat is that our main hooker only ran for 1 metre, how can our main ball controller only make 1 metre in a game and I assume that must have been from just stepping forward at the PTB
Looks like a cock up in the stats, although I imagine there won’t be much difference in them.
This a position we are really lacking, I can’t believe O’Neil still hasn’t had a run out yet or even made the bench!
Sam Powell's missus is ill. Matty Peet offers to help with shopping.
At the Asda checkout, he's in front of DaveO in the queue.
Dave says "Hi Matty, what are you doing in here?"
"I'm getting a bag of spuds and 2 meat pies for Sam Powell." he replies.
"That's a great swap!" says Dave.
The Catalans game isn't one where you can really point towards Powell as being an issue. He doesn't run from dummy half much, we know that, but there's also little point in him running from dummy half for most of that game. If he scoots and goes into contact he'd get dominated in the tackle, as would most hookers. If he gets out of dummy half and takes the ball to the line he'd be passing close to the line and that's a recipe for errors when we're penned in our own half as the defence would be hitting the player as soon as they caught the ball. Taking it to the line and passing deep also wouldn't be the most effective because it risks losing territory. Not much a hooker can do in that situation.
Running from dummy half may have been effective but only if it was done by outside backs, as players like Sarginson and Gildart used to do.
I do think O'Neill might have been one of the few hookers who could be effective in those conditions and that situation though, as he's big enough not to get bullied if he does run the ball. Hopefully he'll get some opportunities soon.

I didn't see the game only the 15 minute highlights on sky, which we didnt feature in as we had no highlights, but even so, as a hooker you would on occasions (at least) step out from dummy half to draw the defensive markers in and look for the pass on to a player running behind the ruck area, it's hooker play 101, you could rack up a good 10m per game just by stepping out at dummy half, conditions were not great I get it, but neither were they for Les Cats, like many have said before if you don't mix up your play then you never become a threat therefore defensive lines just need to concentrate on those running onto the ball
Smithies made our only break and, in my view, was our best forward. Singleton needs to try and run through the line rather than stopping at it.
Bibby also made one but had no support
Yes you are correct. I should have said the only break by our forwards.
Interestingly, the Catalans wingers made 371 metres compared to Hardaker and Marshall who made 119. Their centres ran for 190m, whilst Bibby made 38 and KPP 95. Collectively, the team need to make more ground not just the forwards. Personally, I would have KPP in my pack and Havard is a must when he returns from injury.
If anyone is interested these are the other players statistics (metres made):
