A personal point of view. There is talk on here of the state of the stadium. I am not bothered about sitting down in comparative luxury. I would sooner be standing on the terrace at Central Park. To me watching rugby is about being outside in the elements.
Some will not agree or understand this but we are all different.

Oh to be back a Central Park!! What happy days they were (mostly).

I would rather be in a crap stadium watching good rugby than a great stadium watching crap rugby.

Yes I m reminiscing. Full house at Central Park. Sun lighting up the bank of spectators on the Spion Kop corner.
No point looking back too much but they’re good memories.

There’ll be another chance soon enough. We just need to be patient.
All we can do is support our team and our game in the meantime.

IL is having to dip in his own pocket every year as it is. What chance do we have of financing our own stadium with the pittance we get from TV rights, and 10-11000 spectators per game. Get real.
I am a staunch Wigan RL supporter, but I agree with Josie, I dont understand this " They are the enemy " nonsense.

The average attendance at the DW over the last twenty years is higher than the ones at Central Park in it's last twenty years before it closed.

To no straw damn us ….I agree. If you watch some you tube videos of Central Park I am surprised at how small some crowds were. But there were many atmospheric 20 k plus ones. There are some showing Boston playing in front of small Saturday afternoon crowds. I can only assume that gate receipts didn’t matter as much.
I was concerned to read “that rugby will be played at the DW for the foreseeable future “. I was told that IL reported that there is an agreement that rugby has a 99 year lease….but this could eventually mean an amateur team .
The main point of this post is that Salford could be moving to United F C ground which I read has a capacity of 5000. They are a team with history.
Some careful diplomacy is needed. We are the tenants of the Latics owners.
It seems inconceivable that a possible move like Salfords could happen to us.
However whoever thought that we, the most famous name in rugby league, would be paying rent.

If you like the Latics that’s fine by me. My views are my own, and I respect yours. This is a WIgan fans thread, so I am writing from that perspective.

It is simple enough, just maths. There comes a point - when we measure rent, loss of ability to maximise match day income, inconvenience from being second class citizens and potential alternative income streams - at which it makes sense either to buy the ground from the next administrator or else build our own. Moreover, we really should be looking at the basis on which this was built, and before we accept second class status, explain to the town how that’s happened.

As to costs, I think you are agreeing with me - we need to look very carefully at our business case. IL’s losses have been in part because of these very issues, and the way he has run his business. We have not always lost money, and don’t need to continue to do so in the future. It’s better to pay a mortgage than pay rent.

If we go into the negotiations on any other basis than treating them as someone who wants to dictate terms and get as much cash as they can, then we are living on fantasy island.

Lenagan lost ALOT of money yesterday with his Capital Gains Tax court defeat, so he isn’t in a position to negotiate diddly squat...
