Tom Johnstone completes Catalans Dragons move as Wakefield Trinity lose star winger
Johnstone is understood to have signed a multi-year deal with the Dragons.
Tom Johnstone is understood to have finalised his move to Catalans Dragons. Rugby League Live understands an agreement was reached last week which will see the Wakefield Trinity winger play in Perpignan next year after signing a multi-year deal with the club.
Rugby League Live revealed last week that Johnstone was in advanced talks with the club and that a deal was likely to be finalised. That has now taken place, with the England international set to be one of the highest-profile movers ahead of the 2023 season.
Johnstone, who is currently out of action through injury, has been one of Wakefield's star players for years and his departure is an undoubted blow for the club moving into next season.
With rumours linking Jacob Miller to Castleford also circling, and David Fifita off-contract at the end of the season, Trinity face a challenging recruitment drive as they look to build for the next campaign.
The club's ongoing battle against relegation is likely to set them back. Players are often reluctant to sign for clubs near the bottom of the table due to uncertainty surrounding their Super League status.
As for the Dragons, they have signed one of the best finishes in world rugby.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

So who is leaving out of the Catalans backs? Davies or Yaha?

Good move for Johnstone this and can fully see why a top end SL club have signed him (no disrespect you our Yorkshire friends).

Maybe Yaha is off to have a crack at RU again or Toulouse?

He is a top talent but he doesn’t get on the pitch often enough.CheshireWarrior wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 8:32 pm Good move for Johnstone this and can fully see why a top end SL club have signed him (no disrespect you our Yorkshire friends).

Article highlights another problem with the moronic promotion and relegation system in SL.
Players are reluctant to sign for struggling clubs but they need the players to prevent them struggling.

These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Summed up perfectly, surprised a top club has gone for him for that reason alone, I thought Catalans would go for Eden instead being perfectly honest.Charriots Offiah wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 10:16 pmHe is a top talent but he doesn’t get on the pitch often enough.CheshireWarrior wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 8:32 pm Good move for Johnstone this and can fully see why a top end SL club have signed him (no disrespect you our Yorkshire friends).
