I put a large part of our blip down to understandable pre CCF nerves. Win on Saturday, and the season will have been a success. We are a long way from where we need to be, but we now know what style we want to play to get us there, and how to reach the right level of performance in a one off game. The rest will require coaching, improved fitness, letting deadwood go, signing well and keeping the newly instilled culture. That all looks very achievable to me.
Oh, and I have enjoyed watching Mago. To win big games you need generally to be able to score 20 points. Mago gives us a different weapon which can make a difference in the biggest games - he can either produce a killer offload or drag in enough people to open up space elsewhere. We simply don’t have another threat like it (especially when, sadly, we go back to a non running 9 next month). Far from being a luxury, I see him as essential to this team for the next couple of years.
