I’d agree with Nicholson but you can’t underestimate the power of playing in the nrl. If we had him on a longer contract someone would have paid the fee
At least we would have got some recompense. Why haven’t other clubs seen a player drain? Saints seem virtually immune from this, they retain key players and that is probably why they are currently the top dog. We can’t keep letting talent go and replacing it with inferior players, especially those from down under, if we are to close the gap. SL is there for the taking, it is a second rate competition, but you still need the best players and coaches.
They manage to keep the core together very well so when players are coming in they’re filling in positions that aren’t too influential. Benninson on the wing this year for grace, Hurell at centre but they’ve always kept walmsley Roby lomax while we have a new fb new halfs every few years. Frustrating but with smith we’ve at least got something to build on. Shame we can’t say the same about oneil
Saints are playing with the same cap so we can only put it down to the attitude of the management.

We should have retained Williams and paired him with Smith.
I’d still take George back now. I know a lot of people will disagree but watching him for England and seeing what a top coach gets out him reassures me he’s easily the best half in sl

Remarkable how they’re still extending the likes of Knowles lees and even passi as well to keep them there. Does reassure me tho that we have a lot more faith in the lads coming through our system to replace players that will be moving on

The million-dollar question is, will they stay and win us trophies? There is no evidence to say they will, all we can do is hope.

So would I. He proved a lot of doubters wrong in the NRL.

What smith did for us last year in the cc semi final and the final gives me hope. For someone I couldn’t be less convinced about in the previous year. Having just tied down havard and Byrne tho that’s 2 really good steps forward

Even found myself cheering him on at Canberra. I’ll do the same with John at wests if these rumours are true about Hastings having to leave because they don’t like each other 😂😂

If we are looking long-term then why not let KPP move to Newcastle immediately? Throw Junior into the team and kill him. If the club had been looking at the long-term then they would have tied Nicholson down.
I don’t really get that argument. I’m simply saying looking long term we can get a suitable replacement in a years team who can be from overseas while also taking juniors development up a gear
Because keeping KPP is short-term thinking. There is little point in letting Bateman go if we are not going to recruit.
We've got a year to make the right decision on recruitment, because KPP is a good option next season. Why is letting two players go instead of one and overplaying a junior to their detriment (i.e. losing 3 players in the long term) long-term thinking? Its a straw man arguement - no-one is suggesting we do that sort of thing. No need to say that any is.

First of all, I didn’t say anyone did. Obviously, if a player is only here for one season then by definition that cannot be long-term planning. I didn’t suggest that we should throw Junior to the wolves, if you look back I said that we should keep Bateman or, if he is allowed to leave, sign an equivalent replacement. Just where you would get one from I don’t know but I am happy to be advised. By the way I like KPP but if Bateman goes then we lessen our chances of being successful. If you are happy with that fine, I am not.

We definitely won’t be worse off. Why is John having meetings with Tim sheens when he promised he wouldn’t break another contract. Why is he going back on his word when he’s been recorded on podcasts saying he wants to pay back Wigan for showing faith into getting him back and helping him settle back in with his family over here. Do you honestly think it’s worth trying to convince him to stay ?
hes never broke a contract
He left Canberra one year early. You can sugar coat it all you like saying there was a “ mutual agreement “ or whatever the fact is he left 1 year early. The club wanted to keep him
And he wanted to go
so he didnt break a contract...cool, thats what I asked
