Like others of my age group, I was spoiled by watching the great Wigan teams of yore, but the current team seems a group of journeymen with only two absolutely top class players, obviously French and Field. I’m well aware that we can’t just go out and buy success but we we seem to recruit poorly, and fail to develop young prospects.
The team did so well last year to win the Challenge cup, but I really believe that most of our current players aren’t anywhere near what I would describe as Wigan standard.
I’d love to be wrong and see us win the double, but I don’t have much confidence in that happening.
Sadly, I can’t suggest a solution that doesn’t involve a major restructure.
Somebody cheer me up please!
I think you are right but we will not get a restructure. I just have the impression everyone is too pally at Wigan. The coach doesn’t need to be mates with the players (the great John Monie definitely wasn’t) and those running the club don’t need to be mates with the coach either. If they are it just makes it hard to be ruthless and make the tough decisions to replace those not good enough be that players or coach.
I can tell you with certainty that he was.

I hear all the chatter about Peet being this and that but have seen very little tactical nous when a game is going pear shaped.

I agree and have said in the past though that we rely on Field and French to pull the rabbit out of the hat way too much.

Going off mattys interview he seemed mad.Im gonna reserve my judgement till after the cup game.I get a sneaky feeling we will give it our all but it just wont be enough.Rugby is now a fitness game and atm we look spent. We have had ample time to blood the odd youngster but only do through injuries or cameo appearances

Love it that the experts don't pop on until we lose then like a rare tasmainan devil there's sighting

We have not just been French and Field this season at all. Unless of course you believe sky.

Defence lost us that game, it was the opposite of what we had been seeing before the half term break.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

its only the same as the ones that come on when were doing well.We have a few at work who I regularly educate.I think you find the more passionate fans both praise and knock the team with honesty

I love the man but when did Faz last run front on into a tackle seems like a season ..... as a side tonight just too slow the exploit the extra man . Defense awful like we gave it up which is inexcusable as a fan

I have a book in my bookcase where he is quoted as saying he wasn’t and thought it bizarre that a coach would socialise with players. It might be in “Blood, Mud and Glory” which documents the mission impossible season but I am not sure of that. It is something that stood out to me when I read it and I have never forgotten it in whichever book the quote is in.

And if I had a penny for every time you come on here saying posters don’t pop up until we lose I’d be rich.

When the shoe fits
You'd also have about 5p, pointing out the obvious is boring.

Well it fits you. It’s just so predictable your response is to slag off fans who are annoyed and vent on the forum. You are more reliable than Big Ben with your bog standard ad hominem post every time we lose.

jackthelad wrote: Fri May 12, 2023 10:13 pm Well well well, so poor its unbelievable

Recent posts talk about our new and improved 3/4 line, great centres and wingers etc... never had any attack to utilise any of them

One man boring sh1te rugby, quite pathetic that performance

Mago belly laughing after the game with a Leeds player, not arsed about being turned over at home, really!! Unbelievable!!

Needs a change of attitude or go home IMO not on his own either after tonight's display
Pretty much what i thought.Bit weird giving cust a game without a warm up yet hampshire gets a warm up but no games.Lacked speed on the wings today and surely we would be more creative with shorrocks at loose.Powell was shocking today and must surely be dropped next week along with KPP.
bang on with this Firestarter/jackthelad.

Peet has done well with Shorrocks as a makeweight 6 but that was found our last week, why continue with it? Also spelling O'Neil/Powell - found out last week.

Surely Rocky plays tonight to get into our systems, Cust knows our systems but needed more game time in the Reserves?

On the negatives, how to destroy a young player - pick him then give him the last 5 minutes of a game and then drop him, while your doing that drop his mate who played well...

Being fair, we are 3 Snr props down and missing Field/Marshy but we are snookered for next week unless we improve massively and/or throw some youngsters in.
